Google Suite to Google Workspace (Google Drive Storage Issue)
-
I have been paying $9.99/month for 1 TB of Google Drive storage for years from the Google Play store. I am now getting notices that I have used up 100 GB of my 30 GB of storage. I can’t even purchase more storage because apparently my Google Workspace account is owned by the “reseller” aka WordPress. Yet WordPress notified me that this transition would be seamless back in September 2022 and that I didn’t need to do anything regarding the Google Suite to Google Workspace transition. NOT TRUE! Now what? Anyone else dealing with large amounts of potential data loss?

Hi @ozaukeetalent – thanks for reporting this issue. One of our Google Workspace experts is going to verify how much storage your account is actually using and we’ll get back to you once we have more information.
We’ll try to get to the bottom of this soon. Thanks in advance for your patience, I appreciate it.
p.s. the transition from Google Suite to Workspace was completed for all customers in 2022 and isn’t related to the warning you’re seeing now.

I am having this issue, I’ve been paying for 1TB storage and then suddenly I’m getting messages from google that I’ve “used 400GB of my 30 GB plan,” and to contact the reseller (WordPress). When I try to click the links within my WordPress account they lead me to the same dead end on Google Workspace:
A note from your reseller:
To purchase Google Workspace or additional Google Workspace licenses, please go to MY SITE -> UPGRADES -> EMAILS in your WordPress.com dashboard. You can also reach us at https://wordpress.com/help/contact. Thank you for being part of WordPress.com!
This only keeps directing me back to Google Workspace. I sent a customer support email. Hopefully I’ll get an answer soon. -
I am having the same problem. I received an email that part of my subscription for 1TB was refunded and all of a sudden I have exceeded my storage but the option to purchase more storage doesn’t work. Please advise.

Hi folks, sounds like you’re all having similar issues. Just wanted to let you know that we’re still looking into what’s going on and will add updates here. Thanks for your patience.

I got a random partial refund as well for the 1 TB of Google Drive storage that I have purchased for years. Files are not saving in my Google Drive because I’m told that I am out of space. The owner of the App, Google LLC, does not have a working email address or phone number.

We’ve reached out to Google on everyone’s behalf to try to find out what’s changed on their end. We’ll update you here as soon as we have news.

@talesfrommydarkside – I can’t find any Google Workspace subscription purchased under this WordPress.com account. Could you please let me know the domain name for which you have the Google Workspace subscription?
@theenthusiasticlife – it looks like you’ve cancelled your Google Workspace subscription for
myarthritislife.netthrough WordPress.com, could you please confirm that?@ozaukeetalent – The two main paths we see at the moment are:
- Purchase new Google Workspace licenses with us to get an additional 30GB / license in your pooled storage. More about pooled storage.
- Cancel your Google Workspace subscription with WordPress.com and upgrade to Google Workspace Business Standard directly with Google. When you cancel with us, you’ll get an email from Google automatically, asking if you’d like them to take over your account. Once they do, you’ll be able to upgrade to a higher plan with more storage space. Unfortunately they do not offer pro rated credits for any remaining time on your account at WordPress.com
We are also still discussing your situation with Google to try to determine why you’ve suddenly lost storage space purchased directly through them, which is unrelated to your WordPress.com account. They’re referred to this as a “legacy product” but we’re trying to get more details and will share when we have them.

Hi everyone, I wish I had better news, but unfortunately Google reiterated that any separate storage you’d purchased directly through them was a legacy product that is no longer supported. They do say that you should have seen notifications from them with warnings about the change. They also confirmed that the two different options I mentioned above are the recommended paths:
- Purchase new Google Workspace licenses with WordPress.com to get an additional 30GB per license in your pooled storage.

Are you saying that I can’t get my refund for the $72 for 1 year that I was just charged at the beginning of November? I checked and I received no notification about storage from either Google or WordPress and I was only notified of the change about the pooled storage AFTER I was charged the $72. I have no problem signing up for a new storage plan directly with Google, but first I need to know how to get the refund for the $72 charge. Please advise. Thank you

Hi @spinattackglobal, we are not able to get a refund to pass along to you. If you’d like, though, you could get another account here and use pooled storage, or you can cancel and go with Google. You might also contact them to see if there’s anything they can offer from their side.

Hi @supernovia,
Regarding what you said above:
‘Cancel your Google Workspace subscription with WordPress.com and upgrade to Google Workspace Business Standard directly with Google. When you cancel with us, you’ll get an email from Google automatically, asking if you’d like them to take over your account. Once they do, you’ll be able to upgrade to a higher plan with more storage space. Unfortunately they do not offer pro rated credits for any remaining time on your account at WordPress.com’
I haven’t received an email from Google asking to take over my account and a getting a little worried. What should I do?

@lucyeclo can you double check the same account that’s listed here?
https://wordpress.com/me/account
If you search everything there and don’t have anything from Google, can you please contact them directly? Thanks in advance!
