Google unable to verify site
-
In the past Google has verified my site quite simply when I added the html code to the pages category.
I discovered this morning that Google is unable to verify my site and once again published the page with the html code. Even in the fifth attempt Google is unable to verify the site and cannot find the page even though it is clearly visible on my blog.Any suggestions/advice.
Thanks
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

The old procedure of making a page no longer works, but wordpress has a new, and far more simple procedure.
-
I tried that a few minuted ago.. pasted the ‘content’ in the text box of google verification on the tools page. But the answer from Google remains constant..’unable to verify site”.
-
It’s a google issue then. I just checked your site and the robots.txt file and there is nothing blocked.
Did you just paste the meta tag information as the support document says?
If so, I would wait for a few hours and then try again.

And I should have said, “It is likely a google issue then.” It could be a wordpress issue.
-
Yes ..I saved the changes and followed instruction to the T including just pasting the content value in the box and not the whole meta tag etc..That is right isnt it?
Probably is a wordpress issue.
-
Yes, but it could be a google issue as well. I’ve had these issues with blogs I’ve set up for other people as well, and there is absolutely nothing wrong with the blog.
You can see that there is nothing reported as being wrong with your blog here: http://ismyblogworking.com/sachiniti.wordpress.com .

Wow that is a great link ..have bookmarked it for future reference. So that is that and it boils down to Google issues then….thats fine..as long as it wasnt me exhibiting my dinosaurish traits:)
Thanks a ton Sacredpath. -
Sorry if butting in is wrong, I just verified my blog with Google 10 minutes ago and there were no problems, it verified immediately for me. I copied the meta tag and pasted it in, @kaveetaakaul says she didn’t copy the whole meta tag. Have i done something wrong? Yikes!
-
@welshtala, no you haven’t. If it verified, then Google understood it. I’ve always used the entire meta tag just as you did and it worked fine for me.

To get to the bottom of the problem.>
WordPress instructs thus:
“Enter your meta key “content” value to verify your blog with Google Webmaster Tools”Which was illustrated with example of the content code. Therefore I copy pasted only the content value in the box, which did not work.
I decided to enter the whole of the meta tag code as given by google and it has worked.Although I must admit that a couple of hours earlier too I had pasted the whole code. It hadnt worked then.
But alls well that ends well.
Moral of the story: Do paste in the whole meta tag given by Google in the Tool page
-
Glad that worked out then. I’ve always pasted the entire tag in myself and never had an issue.
Now you can relax and have a cookie or something. You deserve it.
-
Thank you @thesacredpath for a moment there i thought i’d messed up. I can breathe again now. Cheers.

I’m just finding this conversation now! I need help verifying my site with google merchant. I’ve read through this and I just have one question, where is my Tools page? I’m on my dashboard and click on Tools, but I just get the ability to import or export tools and no where to post this meta tag google needs me to to be able to verify my site. Do I need to create a Tools page?? Thanks!
-
By the way, the site that popped up is not the one I’m trying to verify. I’m trying to verify bradburyselegantgifts.com, a site I’m currently building.
