Google verification not working
-
On the support page for Webmaster tools under Google Webmaster tools, step 6. states that I should
“Copy the content value of the meta tag. You’ll see some HTML like this:
<meta name=”google-site-verification” content=”rc2RXSkjV5rz9P2s2hTwdDsnwTu4tD-gmruKUrqBGjs” /> “My file does not contain the <meta> tag or the content variable, but instead contains only this:
google-site-verification: google45c46f20ffe5bc64.htmlCan someone tell me why I may not be receiving the <meta> tag?
Thank you!

Hi there,
Google has different ways to verify your site, including an HTML meta tag or an HTML file. You’ll need to make sure that you select the HTML tag option, and not the HTML file.
It looks like Google is now listing the HTML tag as the recommended method for verification, so you can look on the “Recommended method” tab (instead of the “Alternate methods” tab) to find that.
Please let me know if I can provide any further help with this. :)
