Google Verification – Uploading HTML file to blog address
-
I am trying to verify my new blog address with Google. I have downloaded the HTML file. How do I upload it to my site?

Hi there,
Once you have a verification code, you can enter it in a form in your Dashboard under Tools.
Here’s more instructions on how to use Google’s Webmaster Tools on WordPress.com:

I copy and pasted the verification code into the proper place under the Tools and it doesn’t work. I don’t think the format is correct. It doesn’t match the example provided in the link you gave.

Did you choose the “Alternate methods” tab on the Google Webmasters tool, to get a code that looks like <meta name=’google-site-verification’ content=’dBw5CvburAxi537Rp9qi5uG2174Vb6JwH’/> rather than HTML code?

I choose the “Alternate methods” and received a code that had that form, plugged it into the tools and then when I went to “save changes,” I noted the code had changed to this –
“51J9eg9hnwjoUxXF872teivvVFF4jJ0yRG3pwDlLngQ”
When I went back to the Google Verification page, I clicked on verify and it didn’t work. I clicked on “show found meta-tag” and it gave this —
“<div id=sitelock_shield_logo class=fixed_btm style=bottom:0;position:fixed;_position:absolute;rig”

If you click on “Verify this site” and then “Alternative methods” the first option is HTML tag. That will give you the meta tag for our site.
It should look like this:
