Google Webmaster Tools – Site verification: "file not found"
-
When I get to the 3rd step to confirm successful upload, I get a 404 error. I’ve tried 4 times, signing all the way out then all the way back in, and I always get the same result.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi Robin,
I’m a bit confused. I’m not sure what you mean by upload the site to your blog website. At WordPress.com we you the word blog and site/website interchangeably so they are essentially the same thing.
Can you please explain in a bit more detail?
Thank you!

Sure. These are the instructions I’m using:
1. Download this HTML verification file. [google9a6ef38b0b5ca0de.html]
2. Upload the file to http://acompassionatefriend.com/
3. Confirm successful upload by visiting http://acompassionatefriend.com/google9a6ef38b0b5ca0de.html in your browser.
4. Click Verify below.
To stay verified, don’t remove the HTML file, even after verification succeeds.I download the extension, but it seems identical if I simply copy and paste it. So maybe I’m confused about how I “upload the file” on my blog site. That’s step 2. Can you explain? Maybe I’m not doing it correctly.
Thanks. -
If you want to verify your WordPress.com site, you will have to use our instructions:
