  The support document went live about 12 hours ago, but the actual option did not manifest itself in the Tools tab before just now.

  Nice. Me like it very much.

  I wish wordpress.com could come up with this for other things too, e.g. Google Analytics or other services that require a meta tag by default.

  Are you adding the code in the tool section then clicking save changes at the bottom of the screen then heading back to Google webmaster tools to verify ?

  Click the tab that says “Tools”. You should see

  Turbo: Gears Status
  Press This
  Post by Email

  and

  Webmaster Verifications Tools

  Not?

  It shows me the Gears and the button to activate it

  then it shows me the option to post by email

  no webmaster verification tools

  :(

  It worked for me. The only disappointment was that I had to use my vanilla gmail, rather than the email address associated with my WordPress.com domain (changingway.org).
