Google Workplace is rendered useless when you connect Namecheap and WordPress.
-
I’m new to this, so I’m sure I’ve made a stupid rookie error somewhere.. I’m at a point where I can’t get the site to stay online while also having working email through Google Workplace.
Here’s the sequence of events that led to this
1 – I bought a domain on Namecheap
2- Bought WordPress.com for business.. I started building the site and it worked fine.
3 – My business partner bought a Google Workplace subscription (for some reason it wasn’t available through WordPress)
4 – Now, I can’t seem to get Google Workplace to receive emails unless I change settings that makes the site unavailable.
5 – To boot, WordPress email support and live chat is unavailable. This is massively frustrating..We contacted Namecheap and they want us to move the hosting over to them. I don’t want to do that. In retrospect, I guess we should’ve just bought the domain through WordPress to start with, but I didn’t think this would be such a pain.
Any general thoughts or recommendations on how to troubleshoot? Thanks in advance.

Hi there!
I’ll be happy to help you with this.
If you’ve already purchased a Google Workspace subscription (either directly from Google or through another reseller), all you need to do is add some DNS records to your domain.
Looking at your domain elitehealthhrt.com, I see that you’re using custom IP addresses instead of our nameservers to point it to WordPress.com. This means the DNS records are not managed on the WordPress.com end. Instead, they are managed on Namecheap’s side.
So what you need to do is follow Google’s instructions here and add those DNS records to the domain at the Namecheap dashboard. Doing so correctly will not cause the WordPress.com site to stop loading since you will not need to touch the IP addresses/A records (which makes the domain point to your WordPress.com site).
Within 72 hours of adding the DNS records, the Google Workspace subscription will start working.
Hope that helps! Feel free to let us know if you have more questions.

Thanks for chiming in. I actually got some help from Namecheap support yesterday and they spotted the issue. When I went to use WordPress’ guidance for advanced setup for A Records, it should’ve advised to enter an “@” for the input, “Host.” Once I switched that out, the site connected immediately and everything was restored – without impacting Google Workplace. Seems like it’s all good to go now!
