gophoto.it phantom clicks

  • Unknown's avatar

Just looked at my stats and they list 9 clicks on links from my blog to a site called gophoto.it. I have no such links. Clicking on them from the stats takes me to photos of mine on that site.

What is going on? How can the stats list internal links on my blog that do not exist? I have seen two or three other posts about this issue on the forums but no explanation.

    Any advice appreciated.

Clicks are external links that appear on your blog, and are actually clicked by your readers.

These may be (but are not limited to):

    * Links you add to your post and page content.
    * Links placed in comments by your readers.
    * Links that appear in your blogroll.
    * Links attached to the names of users who comment on your blog.

Please let us know if you need any further assistance!

kardotim, Thanks. I do understand what clicks are, and my blog is small enough and my comments few enough that I am completely sure these external links are not available anywhere on the blog. Any further help would be great. It’s very odd.

Those click links are being generated by a browser extension that some visitors on your site have installed on their own browser. It gives that visitor the ability to share the photo on Facebook or other social media sharing platforms, as well as some other options.

Here’s a direct link to the GoPhoto site that explains a bit more:

Please rest assured that there is no malware or other problematic content actually on your blog.

kardotim, thanks for the further advice. I’m not a fan of software that makes it easy for people to ‘share’ photos for which they don’t hold the copyright – but at least it’s good to know it’s not malware.
