Goran Theme – Last Three Posts on Homepage

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi, I’ve set-up a site using the Gateway theme – https://superrugbyscout.com/

Love the theme, but there’s no ability to add side widgets to the static front page either left of right, which is really inconvenient.

So, I started looking at the Goran theme, as it’s got plenty of widget scope, but a) I can’t manage to get the front page template set-up as it looks in the main photo, and I also wanted to know whether it’s possible to show the last three blogs on that static homepage, rather than then grid page / full width page / sidebar page.

So – if I can solve this with Goran great, or if anyone knows how to add widgets into Gateway that would also solve my problem.

    Thanks

  • Hi @patrickfeast!

You are correct – the Front Page template on Gateway does not support widgets on the side – it was designed to have a full width image, and the three featured posts spread across the screen

Goran’s homepage layout is fairly similar, but as you noticed it uses pages, and not posts for those three items. You select the pages you want to up there, but there is not a way to display posts instead.

One other note, Goran does have additional widget options on the home page, but they won’t be on the side. I didn’t want to to start setting it up and get stuck on that!

As for setting up Goran, each theme has an info page that details the different options and how to configure them to match the demo. Goran’s is here:

If you get stuck on a particular section of that page, let us know and we can help you through it :)

    Thanks Chad.

I’ve followed the instructions on the goran theme page, but still can’t get the other pages to show on the homepage. However, that might be a moot point, if it’s only pages and not posts.

Two questions, do you know of any similar themes with a little more flexibility in terms of widgets – i.e. can show most recent blog posts on the homepage, but also had footer and other widgets ?

I’ve got a business plan for the superrugbyscout.com site, is it possible to customise some CSS / HTML to add some content into the main text above the posts ? If I go to the wpadmin console I can insert media / polls. Is it possible to insert anything else more custom ?

    Thanks

Ixion was the first one that came to mind for me, and the Cerauno has a lot of widget options :)

Can you tell me a little more about what you’re trying to add? CSS can add basic text and images – but you can add those directly in the page as well. Let me know what you had in mind!

Hey Goran, thanks for the suggestions, the Ixion one is very good and so is Cerauno, I’ll have a play tonight. Essentially I’m looking for a static homepage, with a nice high impact image header, that also allows show casing the last 3-5 blogs horizontally across the site. Then below / around this the option of then having sections for additional content. This is what’s been driving my search for more widgets. Because it’s essentially a fantasy advice site, there’s numerous different sources you tend to go to scour information – tweeter, rss feeds, event calendars. Then there’s weekly content we’ll want to update such as injury lists, team polls that kind of thing. I’ve VERY quickly had a look at Ixion and I think it could be a winner with a little more customization and work. I’m trying to avoid a big long vertically scrolling site with content, which is typically where you get most of the flexibility with widgets and layout.

  • You might like Dara.

You could use the Featured Content to put a few posts in the slider, and then fill the footer with widgets. If you don’t need Featured Pages or Testimonials, you can leave them off all together.
