Goran Theme Problems And Other Problems

Hello,
There is an unrelated bug/problem that I wanted to report that has been annoying me for a while involving a possible Tag related bug.
Usually when I add the tags: Dream Fragments or Dream Fragment to my posts in the Dashboard Visual Editor, the tag gets changed after I publish my posts from Dream Fragments or Dream Fragment to: Dream Fragments | or Dream Fragment | .
This symbol : | is what I use to separate things in the title of my blog posts, but for some strange reason that symbol gets added to those two tags most of the time even if I remove it or do not add it; and it usually adds itself after I publish the post, it usually looks normal until I publish a post, and then the tag is changed with that symbol magically/automatically on its own.

I was just wondering if this could be fixed?
Thank you,
-John Jr -
Hi John Jr – could you please link me to the post where this screenshot was taken so I can examine the code directly? Thanks!
-
Hello Kathrynwp,
Yes:
You can also use almost any of my posts from the last few months or more that have those two tags like my post from today:
You are welcome, and thank you.

Thanks for the link.
Could you clarify for me which dashboard you’re using when the | character (it’s called a pipe) gets added?
Is it the one at wp-admin, for example:
https://johnjronline.wordpress.com/wp-admin/post.php?post=247&action=edit
Or is it when you post via the new editor here, for example, at a URL that looks like this:
https://wordpress.com/post/xxxxx
Or does it happen in both cases?
Would you mind if I created a draft post on your site as a test?
-
Hello Kathrynwp,
You are welcome, and thank you for letting me know that it is called a Pipe. ;)
Yeah the Classic/Original Dashboard Editor in the Visual Editor (Dashboard | Posts | Add New), not the New Editor/Beep Beep Boop Editor that is not available in the old/main Dashboard (from the top wordpress.com bar/toolbar/whatever under New Post or the pencil icon with a + symbol), but I have not tested this problem in the New Editor yet because I am avoiding it until the bugs/annoyances are fixed and the missing features are restored and full Zemanta support is added.
Please feel free to test this in either editor on my blog if you want to/have time, thank you. :)

How very odd. I was able to replicate your issue on your site, but not on my test site.
Would you be willing to try this:
On the last page under Posts > Tags here:
You could try clicking the Edit link just below where you see Dream Fragment | Remove the pipe there, as well as the space just to the left of it, and click Update when you’re done.
Then try adding the Dream Fragment tag to a new post and see what happens.

Hello Kathrynwp,
That was a brilliant idea!
I followed your instructions and I made a temporary test post that I will be deleting soon (https://johnjronline.wordpress.com/2014/09/04/temporary-test-post-for-tag-bug/), and I added the tags: Dream Fragment and Dream Fragments; and it worked, but Dream Fragments got automatically lower cased after I Published the post so I used that Tag Page to edit the Dream Fragments Tag to have the first letter of each word upper cased and it worked.
Thank you very much. :)
Sorry to annoy you again (I am only asking because this is happening in the Classic Editor also, the New Editor does not have this feature yet), but has anyone been able to reproduce this problem that I am having with Gramar/Spell Check Suggestions on the first try (I recently tried it in the new Firefox 32 and it still happens on the first try):
Thank you,
-John Jr -
I’m so glad your tag issue is sorted – that was a weird one!
Your post about the grammar/spell checker has the modlook tag, so a Happiness Engineer will definitely get to it. Staff works through flagged posts in order, handling the oldest ones first.
Thanks for your patience and for all your helpful reports, they are appreciated!

Hello Kathrynwp,
Thank you, and thank you for teaching me about Tag Editing. ;)
Okay, and thank you. ;)
Okay, thank you for reminding me about your test draft, I will take care of it now. ;)
You are welcome, and thank you for taking the time to help me. :)
Have a good day :) ,

I wanted to let you know that the cropping of the header image has been updated. The cropping outline should more accurately reflect the suggested size of the header image.

Good news everyone!
A breadcrumb navigation is now available via the theme options: http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/goran/#theme-options

Hello Thomas Guillot,
Wow! Thank you very much. :)
You are probably the first theme author that I know who has added a requested feature to a theme after its public release, I like and respect that (and I hope to see a few more things added to your current and/or future themes ;) ), keep up the good work. :)

Hi Thomas,
I echo johnjronline’s comment! This theme is looking great, and I appreciate your willingness to add/tweak functionality.
A couple of questions/comments…
1) I Am not seeing breadcrumbs enabled for posts. Example:
Home > Cat 1 > Cat 2 > Post
Can this be enabled as well?
2) Regarding your “cropping of the header image has been updated” comment, are you referring to the “Featured Image” on the “Front Page” template?
If so, I noticed that even without a Featured Image defined and “Front Page Title” disabled, there is approx. 460 px of vertical space. When I add text content there is padding above and below the text area approx. 200px.
Am I completely misunderstanding how to use this feature?
My preference would be that the Front Page template, or any other page template, allow me to add text and image media via the visual editor with no overlay or extra padding IF I do not define a featured image.
Hope I’m not making this more difficult than it really is. :-)
Thanks again!

Hello,
Thank you for mentioning Breadcrumbs for Posts Vernon Blake Jr :) , I also noticed that it is currently for Pages only, and I think that it would be nice to have it for Posts as well (I also would like to see Timestamps for Posts even if it is only as a Hover Text option when you put the mouse cursor over the Date); and I also would like to see a Tagline/Slogan option for businesses/users/organizations/et cetera who have Taglines/Slogans and/or who want to use one, and those are my last requests to avoid making things too difficult and to avoid changing the theme too much. ;)
Thank you,

Hello,
The problems that I reported in #6 with previews of Header images in the Header section (and the Random option is probably not working) and the problems with previews of images in the Media Library are still there, are these three problems still being investigated?
Thank you,
-John Jr -
I have a similar problem to johnjronline – my header text ” Seamus O’ Rourke” sometimes comes up on two lines and other times on one line. How can I fix this or get it fixed – I have the free version of the theme?
This would require custom CSS. It’s not a bug per se. It’s more just a characteristic of the theme. The theme limits the site title width to 314px. If your site title expands beyond that, it will wrap. The following CSS should do the trick:
@media only screen and (min-width: 600px) { .site-title { width: 350px; } }Please note, you would need the Custom Design upgrade to add this CSS!
Regarding your “cropping of the header image has been updated” comment, are you referring to the “Featured Image” on the “Front Page” template?
I’m referring to the cropping box that appears under Appearance -> Header when you upload a new header image. Previously, the cropping box height was a bit out of proportion. JohnJrOnline brought it up under #5 here:
My preference would be that the Front Page template, or any other page template, allow me to add text and image media via the visual editor with no overlay or extra padding IF I do not define a featured image.
We’ve decided not to add that feature to this theme.
I Am not seeing breadcrumbs enabled for posts. Example:
Home > Cat 1 > Cat 2 > Post
Can this be enabled as well?I’ll submit that for consideration!
I also would like to see a Tagline/Slogan option for businesses/users/organizations/et cetera who have Taglines/Slogans and/or who want to use one
I’ll submit that for consideration as well.
The problems that I reported in #6 with previews of Header images in the Header section (and the Random option is probably not working) and the problems with previews of images in the Media Library are still there, are these three problems still being investigated?
Both are currently working on my side. Can you try this in another browser to see if you notice a difference? Also, is this only happening when you have the Goran theme enabled?
