got a refund on a custom domain name, now it's not available.
-
Hi, I’m aware this is a very basic question with an answer I should know. But I’m very new to all this.
I confused wordpress.com with .org. I paid a small fee for a custom domain, and about twenty minutes later while setting up my blog realized I’d taken the wrong option. I managed to cancel the transaction (well within the window for canceling domain names.)
Now I’m trying to open up my site on wordpress.org and when I try to use that domain name unsurprisingly it is not available. Yet I don’t have access to it. So my question is, is there anything I can do? Will it possibly become available again soon?
Any help is appreciated, sorry for being a total newbie.

Right.

Now I’m trying to open up my site on wordpress.org
To be perfectly clear: you are in the wrong forum. This forum is for blogs/sites hosted in WordPress.com.
WordPress.COM and WordPress.ORG are completely separate and different http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/
And you should ask in the WordPress.org forum.

Yes, I get that they’re different, thanks. How am I in the wrong forum when I bought the domain from wordpress.com? It was hosted on .com, not .org.
Hence why I’m here.

This is the correct forum
when a domain name is canceled – the name reverts back to the registrar – they do not need to release it – sometimes a domain squatter will grab a domain name and hold it hostage – sometimes the registrar will auction off the domain name – they are under no obligation to release the domain name – if they do decide to release the domain name back to the wild, in the case of canceled domains – the time can be from a few days to several weeks
I will flag this for the staff – they MIGHT be able to retrieve the domain name for you – then you can change the name servers to your new host

@patriciaaworley: you had not said that you register a domain through WordPress.com. That changes things and actually this is the right forum.
@auxclass: thanks for always being attentive to correct my mistakes. ;) -
Hello there!
Yes, unfortunately, when a domain is canceled it does not make it immediately available to repurchase. The process takes phases, and offers no guarantee that you can get the domain back.
http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/cancel-domain/
I went ahead and requested for the domain to be restored back to your account. Meanwhile, I prepared a manual payment request for you to take care of the registration fees that were previously refunded:
https://manualpayments.wordpress.com/?u=64c4af7d90
Total amount is $26, which includes domain registration ($18) and private registration ($8).
Once that’s paid, I can facilitate the restoration of the domain upgrades to your account. Thank you!

Hello Patricia!
Just following up if you still wanted your domain restored. :) Please take care of the payment request as soon as you can.
