Grammarly Stopped Working With The Gutenberg Editor

  • Unknown's avatar

    Dear Sir/Madam,
Grammarly stopped working with the Gutenberg editor, but it works fine with the Classic Editor.

Could you please look into the matter?

    Yours Respectfully,

  • Hi there,

I’m not sure how much we can fix this without having access to a subscription, but can you let us know what’s happening when you try to use it? If you’re getting an error, can you send the full text of that?

And, if you can see any JavaScript errors or anything of the like, please send those as well.

    Dear Supernova,

I am not getting any type of error message whenever I utilize Grammarly in the Gutenberg editor and I have not seen any JavaScript errors either.

The Grammarly icon is supposed to show up at the bottom of the block that is being currently used in the Gutenberg editor.

Grammarly is fully functional whenever I use the other aspects of WordPress; such as the comments section and the old TinyMCE editor.

Please feel free to discuss this among your fellow engineers (Hopefully, one of them uses Grammarly and would be able to help you find out why it stopped working with the Gutenberg editor).

    Yours Respectfully,
    Renard Moreau

  • Hi Renard,

As you can see from the following screenshot Grammarly works without any issues for me:

    https://cld.wthms.co/yaEaI8

What exactly is the issue you’re having? Are the Grammarly icon and pop-up not showing in the editor?

If you have any other extensions I suggest disabling them and try again.

Also, what’s the browser you’re using?

    Dear Fstat,

I saw from your screenshot that Grammarly works with the Gutenberg editor on your end.

Unfortunately, Grammarly is not working with the Gutenberg editor on my end. The Grammarly icon and the pop-up stopped showing on my end (This is the only issue that I have with it; it works fine in the WordPress comments section).

I followed your suggestion by disabling other extensions and trying Grammarly again.

I am using the Google Chrome browser.

By the way, I also have the same issue with Mozilla Firefox; the only extension that I installed on it is Grammarly.

    Yours Respectfully,
    Renard Moreau

  • I did some research and found out that this is a known conflict. It’s not on WordPress’ end and Grammarly should work on a fix.

Please note that it’s not possible for the WordPress development team to provide compatibility for any browser extension out there.

    Dear Fstat,

Thank you for looking into the matter.

It is up to the engineers at Grammarly to come up with a fix in a timely manner.

    Yours Respectfully,
    Renard Moreau
