I see that there are two versions of Grammer available: Grammer One which is free, and Grammer which is for a paid plan.

Both of these themes can only use the Block Editor. If it’s been a while since you’ve worked with a blog here, perhaps you are only familiar with the Classic Editor (which works completely differently and IMHO is more user friendly; but as always, different people have different preferences and everyone is entitled to their opinion and choice of Editor where available.)

That said: WordPress.com recently changed their policy re: the two Editors. If your blog is new (after early February this year) you don’t have the Classic Editor as an option at all for any Plan that is lower than Business ($$$) level. If your blog is pre-February 2025, you are still able to use the Classic Editor IF the theme that you choose supports it; but the Grammer themes do not. Only themes that have “Classic Theme” in their tag can work with the Classic Editor. All other themes must use the Block Editor.

There are links within both Grammer themes that can help with learning to use the Block Editor if that is what you need to use. Unfortunately I can’t help with that because I absolutely hate the Block Editor and refuse to use it, lol)

thank you for your reply, yes it was more late feb i created it! I am cross at myself as I have an empty blog from last year I could have just used that would be using the old format! But I have paid to upgrade now, the theme I am wanting is included in the plan?

Yes, according to the WordPress.com page showing all available themes, Grammer is available to users who have a Personal (the lowest-priced paid tier) plan:

Not sure what the difference is between the free-plan Grammer One and the paid-plan Grammer; to me they look the same on the sample, LOL. But at least with the paid plan you won’t have any ads inserted into your blog, which to me is the main reason for going from Free to Paid. ;-)

    Hi folks,

I wanted to address the following first:

Not sure what the difference is between the free-plan Grammer One and the paid-plan Grammer

The Grammer theme is an improved and updated version of the Grammer One theme. While both themes are still available in the theme showcase for users to activate, the newer Grammer theme has better responsive designs for mobile and tablet users and a light style variation.

We’ve updated the theme description on the Grammer One theme to let the users know that there’s a newer version. This was added as a result of this discussion, so thank you both for bringing it up! :)

Now, onto the question @alispeller2019 originally asked, both Grammer One and Grammer themes use the new Site Editor, which allows you to customize the theme beyond the structure you see on the theme demo. If you haven’t yet, I highly recommend checking out the video and the content on the link below, which will introduce you to the Site Editor:
