Grant access to folder w/.htaccess & .htpassw (permalink influenced)

    Hi all,
    Bear in mind I’m at novice+ level of web creations, and I found that WordPress would dynamically relieve my old, battered HTML works.

    Making the change for WordPress CMS also gave a ‘side effect’ when I changed setting for Permalinks to use the ‘Post name’ from the default ‘Plain’;
    I used to run a single folder with content I needed on the go now and then, using .htaccess and .htpasswd settings to keep it out of public.

    Now I’d like to run the CMS on ‘Post name’ and ALSO allow me to key in the domain.com/foldername/ to get a login message box for u/pw, and grant me that access.
    Note: the user login details are not the same as the wp-admin user details.

    Any takers on how to ensure this?
    (Page is running Baskerville theme, and Yaost and 404page plugins.)

  • Hi there!

    I’m afraid that, your site is not hosted with WordPress.com. It is a site using the open-source WordPress software (from WordPress.org) but hosted with another company.

    Because WordPress.com and WordPress.org are two entirely separate entities, we cannot access files or data for sites that are hosted elsewhere, so WordPress.com staff can only assist with sites that are hosted on our servers. You can read more about the differences between WordPress.org software and WordPress.com here:

    WordPress.com vs. WordPress.org

    You can find help with your question at: https://wordpress.org/support/forums/
    http://wordpress.org/support/ is also a great resource for sites using the open source WordPress.org software.
