Graphics From Older Posts No Longer Sized Down
-
After adding a new post, which looks fine, I scrolled down to earlier posts and found that the photos and graphics that were previously sized to fit by the WP editor are now huge and no longer fit the page, so they are cropped off. My blogs look terrible now.
The posts look fine on an iPhone but via any browser on my Mac, they are a mess. What happened? Do I have to go back and fix 10+ years worth of posts? Yes I cleaned my cache and tried three browsers – Firefox, Viasat, and Safari.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there,
It appears that something in the way image blocks are created, is causing the styling for images in your older posts, made with the classic editor to break. If I preview your site using a different theme, the problem goes away, so this is a bug with your theme. Unfortunately it’s not something we’ll be able to fix in this case:
The Ocean Mist theme you’re using is very old, and was retired in 2013 already. What this means is, while you can still use it, it no longer receives any updates or bug fixes.
If you want to continue using this theme, you’ll have to stick with the classic editor – you can still access that from https://robinkoontz.wordpress.com/wp-admin/edit.php
But you’re going to start seeing more and more issues with this theme as it becomes more outdated, so I recommend you start looking for a different theme.
We have a number of new themes specifically created for the block editor, along with several older themes that have been updated to be compatible. An additional benefit is that all our current themes at My Site ->Design ->Themes are fully mobile-friendly, which Ocean Mist isn’t.
Let me know if you have any questions about this.

Wow, thank you for the very bad news. I didn’t get the memo about WordPress discontinuing Ocean Mist.
If I change to another theme, will that mean I have to revamp all of my past posts? Is there a theme that would transition easily?
What happens if the one I choose also gets discontinued in the future? Can you tell me which ones will remain permanently?
Doe my being a paying member get me any assistance other than I have to go and change things because of a change in your platform?
Thank you again. I look forward to more information when you or someone has time.

I also write posts for my partner – wildcatman.wordpress.com, and that theme is Sundance. Is it also discontinued?

No, in fact the only thing you may have to do (besides clicking the Activate button on your chosen new theme) is spend a few minutes re-organizing your widgets and menus.
Some folks even switch themes often just for fun, it’s a very non-destructive thing. :)
Sundance. Is it also discontinued?
Sundance is also discontinued. It was first released in 2012 and hasn’t received any updates since 2014.

Well, now you’ve turned bad news into better news! I’ll carve a couple of hours to fix both of our WordPress blogs and hope it all works. Honestly I didn’t see a need to switch themes, ever. I’ll let WordPress friends know about this.
Thank you! Problems hopefully resolved. :-)

I responded too quickly, trusting that all would be well. It was not. I tried 8-9 themes and all of them sent me this message: Unable to activate theme. Contact support.

Is this on https://robinkoontz.blog/, and from My Site ->Design ->Themes?
I don’t see any log entries on our end for an attempted theme change, so it’s possible your browser isn’t even sending us the request.
Please check if clearing your browser cache helps at all. If you’re using any browser add-ons, also try temporarily disabling those.

Themes become outdated in terms of the type of code they use, and all themes eventually reach a point where it would require completely rebuilding the theme from scratch to ensure it remains compatible with the latest web technologies and WordPress.com features.
At that point we retire a theme, so it cannot be activated on new sites any more, but it can continue working normally for years after that, as has been the case here, so we don’t notify site owners when a theme gets retired.

I found that the issue is that I have Malwarebytes and it was blocking ads and trackers coming from your site. I allowed them and was able to try new themes. Now I can’t find my old site (instructions said it would be in “drafts” and it is not).
Oh well, it’s okay for now, the photos look right again, but my blog is not nearly as nicely organized as it was using Ocean Mist and I don’t have time to mess with it at this time. Overall a big disappointment. :-( But thank you for helping me get things working anyway.
