Graphics no longer clickable to bigger version

I’m just new to WordPress, so forgive me if the answer is blindingly obvious…

I started using WordPress a few days before your new software went live. With my first few postings, I uploaded images that were a little bigger than their final display size. But I could click on them in public blog view, and they reloaded to their full size. That’s still the case with those early posts. I’ve inserted photos in some newer posts that were also larger than the final display size. But clicking on them no longer reloads them at full size. I think this situation started about the time the new software took over. Is this ability to expand pix to their full size no longer supported by the new software? If not, how do I get things back to the way they were for future postings?

you might be in the wrong forum, unless you have a wordpress.COM blog

  • If you are using WordPress.com, make sure to click the File URL or Post URL button before you click the Insert into Post button. Once you’ve done this, your choice will be remembered for next time. See this screenshot: http://skitch.com/mtdewvirus/7587/mdvtester-add-new-post-wordpress

I am using wordpress.com and my blog address is jmacg.wordpress.com.

I’m not seeing those options (file URL and postURL) underneath this reply window. Do they only appear when I do a brand new post?

I’d still love an answer to my original question if anyone knows the answer.

I’ve just started off a new post to see if those file URL and post URL options are there. They aren’t. Where are they?

They appear in the window when you go to insert an image into a post or page.

You should be able to click on the images you want linked in the editor, then click on the edit button in the upper left of the image, and then select it there. Make sure and click the “update” button and then save the post.

Thanks – I’ll try it tonight.

    I’m having the same issue.
I’ve found how to post the link so that when a reader clicks on the picture they are taken to a new window/tab with only the image being displayed. However, I’ve gotten a number of complaints from readers that the links no longer display the image in its full resolution. Before the dashboard update, I could insert an image into a post at “medium” size (for example) and the link would display the image in it’s full size.

Can anyone help me figure out how to restore that function? I’ve looked everywhere and I don’t see anything. A lot of my readers have been printing the higher resolution images and I’d be very sad if this capability no longer exists…

When you insert the image, you have to make sure and click “file URL” before you insert it into the post. WordPress will remember your selection the next time or until you change it.

If images are already inserted into a post, open the post for edit and click on the image and then click on the “edit image” button that appears at the upper left of the image. There you can click on “file URL” (or it may be called “image URL” and then click the “update” button at the bottom. Make sure and save the post.

I have exactly the same issue which brought me to the support page last night, and I know my way around the WP backend, have been on it for 18 months or more.

Initially I noticed that all images I had entered since the update (around 10 articles and reviews) did NOT havethe links attached as it was a default befor, now it must be activated as you say from under the image when uploading. Even when the url is activated, which is no longer a default as mentioned, it’s an opt-in now, the images, including thumbnails STAY the same size when viewed and uploaded to a separate page.

As I have a review site, we have hundreds of thumbnails for readers to check out full sized images, but now the only thing that happens is the image opens up in a separate page/window, but at the exact same size itis on the post/page in the published site.

If the pictures are already in your post(s), click on them to get to the advanced settings (the mountain icon) and delete everything after jpg. It will be something like this: ?w=128

    Thanks .

That seems to have solved the issue . .How come it has decided to place the ?w128 after all the images now since the update ??? it’s the same code on the end of every pic/image for some reason . . .

Why does it place the code there?

If you click on the file url when you insert the image as you upload, it opens full-sized. Once it’s loaded without clicking the file url, it will only open as the size you chose.
    I don’t know why it’s like that.
But in future, if you click the file url as soon you insert an image into your post, it will open full-sized.

At least I think that’s how it works. I’ve been on vacation then spent the last week catching up on work for the last week so I’ve not been posting much since the change. I have been writing drafts and experimenting though.

It used to do that in some circumstances before this latest change though I don’t remember exactly how anymore. I have always gone into the advanced settings anyway to add horizontal or vertical space anyway so it doesn’t seem like a big deal to me.

Thanks for the info, always helpful to know more about what and why things happen the way they do – or don’t as the case may be.

I’ve had to go back a good number of articles and reviews to remove the code from every pic for some reason they are one 90% of them in an article, then the odd one here and there doesn’t – odd.

But it’s all sorted now, I just have to finish getting them all cleaned up.
