graphics vanish when I try to format them
-
Hi, I’ve had an ongoing problem for a few months months now… in which I can no longer put pictures or graphics in the body of posts. I can upload one, but then as soon as I open the ‘insert/edit image’ feature (tree icon) and try to, ie, position the image to the left within a certain paragraph and have text flow around it… the image just vanishes altogether. This is the consistent issue, all the time: I can no longer upload and then ‘situate’ a graphic, whereas I used to have no problem at all. This feature went from no problem, to NOT happening, at all. I really like using graphics… can someone tell me what’s going on?
BTW: If I just upload a graphic and let it land wherever wordpress puts it, it will be at the top of the post, and will *not* allow text flow — it just sits in the wrong location, by itself, or *vanishes* instead of accepting values from “insert/edit” feature.
Advice please?? One of the blogs in question (tho it also happens on my other one) is http://alchemyofabundance.wordpress.com
Thank you

Does it happen on all the blogs you run, or just some of them? What browser and version are you using? It may be that the image is setting to size O or 1, so can you look on one of your posts in the Code view and see if the size has been changed to that?

Thanks Raincoaster,
I’m generally in IE 7.0, or alternately Firefox 2.0. You’re right, it seems as tho the image is setting to size 0 when I try to adjust it, but WHY would it?
This is what the code says for one image dropped in, before being formated in any way: img border=”0″ vspace=”3″ align=”left” width=”1″ . The pic looks fine… until I try to move it. For one thing, it simply will not MOVE DOWN; the entire post snaps back to the first paragraph and the image will ONLY go in there; and not aligned the way I want it, to boot. When I try to move it and get text flow, it disappears. Tho there are a couple of tiny dots holding the space where it once was, further supporting the theory of “size zero.” But why — why ALL of these things? Glancing at the code just now, I found numerous repeats of the insert of this darn graphic, with no actual pic to show for it!
I work with 2 blogs, and this happens with both of them, all the time, any graphic I try to insert.
Any thoughts? I’m certainly not *telling* the software to reduce graphics to size zero – ? I just don’t get this — why fine once, and completely *not* fine now?

I’m at a loss. There WAS an error similar to this many months ago where the JPEGs all set to height and width zero if you tried to edit it. Maybe a search of the forum will turn up a solution? I seem to recall staff had to fix it. You’ve got a half-hour to contact staff before they close for the day, so do so with all details and a link to this thread for good measure. Hopefully they’ll track it down to the source and put it right.

Did anybody fix this? For the past two days I have found that all the formatting on new posts is going to pot. Text goes under pictures, pictures disappear when I try to add borders or space around them and there are weird line breaks that don’t show on the editor or the HTML. There are also spaces that were around pictures on old posts that have disappeared (but only on some). I have tried using Firefox, Int Exp and Opera and its the same (although Opera is a nightmare with WordPress at the best of times). This also happened a week or so ago on one post I was writing, but it just corrected itself after a short while without me doing anything. What’s going on. I can’t post!

Can you please provide a direct link to your blog, starting with http. Then we can look at the code and put our heads together.

Sure http://www.thefullblog.com. Since writing my last post I have discovered more problems. The paragraph of text immediately after the pictures had changed in some cases to become a link and deleting the pictures, deleted the text as well – annoying. I obviously then had to remove the link from the text and then delete the pics.
I have since retuned to Firefox and re-edited my last post “Trash Brands”. This time I could enter the horizontal and vertical spaces around the pics and the new spacing appeared on the code, but when saved the spaces are not appearing on the published page or the preview page.
One clue perhaps. When I have reformatted pictures in the past it has created a duplicate picture in the post which is reformatted and I have had to delete the original. Weird, but I guess stuff is sometimes! Now though this doesn’t happen, although I found two sets of pic codes in the html each time. I guess the reformatted picture isn’t loading for some reason – although it would be great if the original just reformatted.
Doesn’t explain the other stuff though! I look forward to hearing what you think.

Yes, I’ve seen that last error sometimes, too; when that happens it’s because something at WP’s servers is going through some growing pains and it’s usually temporary.
That is quite a mishmash of errors you’re reporting. Tell me, are you typing directly into the Write Post box, or pasting from something else? I’m no code guru, but a look at the posts doesn’t seem to show anything bizarre. We have had a recurring error where all the P tags get turned into Div tags (seems related to starting a post with a centered image with a link on it) but that wouldn’t account for everything else.
Hopefully someone with a better eye for code can come up with some ideas.

I always type straight in to the write post box and this is no exception. I realise that things like cutting and pasting, even within a post can cause problems so I try to keep it as simple as possible. This loss of formatting though makes the post look bad and the look was my main reason for using WP in the first place, so its a real problem for me. I hope we get someone with the solution. As you say though, the code seems generally to be OK, it jst doesn’t reflect what’s on the screen! I guess its one of those Bermuda Triangle things!

Contact staff when they open in a couple of hours, if someone hasn’t solved this by then. I think it’s probably something on their end.
