Gravatar
-
Hello,
When someone does a name search for Athena Georgiadis in Google Images an old Gravatar, the first, on WordPress pops up. I’d really like that picture removed. Is there a reason it is still connected with my name?
Thanks

Hi there,
Could you send me a link to the image you’re referring to?
You might try requesting that Google remove the image in question, since it may be cached by them, and if so there’s not much we can do about this.

The image is being pulled from http://en.gravatar.com/snowrifle which is your current gravatar.
You can change that http://en.gravatar.com/

Hey there and thanks for your response. If you actually go to Google images and search for my name two old gravatar’s of mine from WordPress still come up, though when you actually click on the above link, it’s my current gravatar that pops up. Which is why, if you are clicking on the above link you are seeing my current gravatar. The old gravatar’s are still visible on google images and when I tried to contact google it said I needed to contact the host sight of the photos.

I’ve just gone in and removed that image from your account. It may take some time before this change is reflected in search results — you may want to check in with Google again for additional information about this.
Hope this helps!

Hi again and thanks, We’ve just looked up my name on Google Images and both of the old Gravatars are very much still showing up and linked to the WordPress site.
-
Hi there,
Is this the image you’re referring to:
http://t1.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcS4xeJnHvWF_Lvw_3iA3Pmrd2Z9z-rjMSyeja8UxcjmYPZkBFRoIf so, it appears to be a cached image on Google’s servers. You’ll need to contact them as we don’t have any control over how they cache images or when they purge them.

Hey, I’ve been trying to get this done with Google, this is the response I’m getting:
* Google doesn’t own the web, and can’t remove content from the web.
* The images in Google’s search results are controlled by the webmasters of the sites that hosts those images. There is an option to remove the url all together but since the link in question, links to my current WordPress page I’m wondering if it will completely remove any link to WordPress from Google?
-
It won’t affect recursive links, just the specific link you submit. I recommend doing that.
-
Google denied my removal request citing this reason:
The content you submitted for cache removal appears on a live page.
As you may know, information in our search results is actually located on publicly available webpages. Even if we removed this page from our index, the content in question would still be available on the web.
To remove this information from our search results and from the web, you’ll need to contact the webmaster of the site in question. Once the webmaster makes the change, you can submit a request to remove the cached copy or simply wait for our search results to reflect this change the next time we crawl the page.

Both old photos that immediately pop up on Google Image serches for my name, are attached to this link (which is the same link to my current Gravatar). Btw, I don’t actually want a Gravatar anymore:

What you see at that link is a default gravatar image (a white G oriented to look like a power button on a blue background).
This is displayed when a user does not have a gravatar. It is out default gravatar and cannot be removed.
If you see anything else there, I recommend clearing your browser’s cache: http://en.support.wordpress.com/browser-issues/
-
Cache has been cleared -old photos continue to appear on Google Image search. If you were to look up my name, you would very clearly see that old photo of me in the very first line of photos.
Should I just cancel my WordPress page and start a new one?
Google made it clear that they could not remove the image as it is attached to a Live Page and therefore the image would only cease to appear if the host site removed it.

Howdy,
Could you please try requesting the removal of this file:
http://t1.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcS4xeJnHvWF_Lvw_3iA3Pmrd2Z9z-rjMSyeja8UxcjmYPZkBFRo
That file is hosted on Google’s servers.
Your old gravatar doesn’t appear to be live on our servers.
-
Thanks Chris and the rest of you who’ve been trying to sort this out but Google has denied that request as well.
-
That file is no longer hosted on our servers, so it’s up to Google to remove that image. Can you let me know what they last said when you made the request with the URL that chrisrudzki provided?

From the article below, it looks like Google may think the image is still on our servers because, when you click on “Full size image” from the Google search page, you’re taken to a valid image, even if it doesn’t match the one in the search results:
http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/Webmasters/thread?tid=001fbca6520fc376&hl=enWe have deleted the image on our end, so it should be updated the next time Google indexes your site. However, I would consider opening a separate support request with Google for some additional information:
