gravatar activation loop

  When I try to login to gravatar.com I get the message:

  “We sent you a confirmation email!

  We sent an email to [me]@[mydomain.com] when you signed up for Gravatar.”

  The problem is,
  – I’ve resent and activated my account several times now and the message remains.
  – I can log in to wordpress.com without problem
  – I have unconnected and reconnected gravatar from my wordpress.com account. No change.
  – I have an active gravatar for this account so presumably the account was activated at some point in the past?

  I signed up for gravatar (and wordpress.com) roughly a year ago. Why am I being bothered with this now?
