Gravatar; help?!

  • Unknown's avatar

    I already posted this question yesterday but nobody responded and it is sorta key if I want to start using my new blog. So let me try again;

I recently created a second blog (soozysideup), for a very different audience than my original blog (mundanebrain). Whereas my “old” blog is anonymous, my “new” blog does not necessarily need to be. The problem is, that when I am on my new blog, it refers to the old gravatar profile.

I just changed the email address of my new blog as I understood that two blogs with one email address can never have to gravatar profiles. My question is: Now that I do have two email addresses (one for each blog), can I create (and if so, how) a different gravatar for my new blog, so that I can completely separate the two blogs and thus the two identities?

Thank you in advance for your help!

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I had the same problem but I ended up just making two different usernames under wordpress and then creating a separate gravatar for each account. I believe that the number of gravatars you can have correlates with the number of accounts you have on wordpress.

You are correct. One can have a only single gravatar for each username account, regardless of how many blogs they register under that same username account.

Thanks for the replies! However, I still do not understand… How do I create a second gravatar? Both blogs and thus both email addresses have a different photo as gravatar, however, they both redirect to the gravatar “mundanebrain”? When I try to change my “name” I get directed to a wordpress WARNING page which says it can’t be undone, and I am unsure whether changing my name will then result in bóth identities being changed or just one?

I am sorry for being so slow in understanding!

Getting desperate. I feel like I tried everything?
I think I have used five email addresses by now to figure it out, and I can’t seem to get separate gravatars the way I think it should be? Because when I create a new one, and then change the email address of one of my blogs to match the email address of the newly created gravatar, the gravatar connected to the blog will still be the mundanebrain one, and the new email address is up there tóo, while it is still also connected to the newly created gravatar? Help, anyone? :(

    Hi mundanebrain,

Each WordPress.com account you have is linked to a single public profile. You can set up different Gravatar images for different email addresses within the same account, but they will all still link to the same public profile. That profile will use your username (mundanebrain).

If you change your username, it will change your WordPress.com username for your entire account.

If you’d like to create completely separate public profiles for your Gravatars, you will need to create separate WordPress.com accounts. You can create a new WordPress.com account by logging out of your current account and going to this link:

    https://signup.wordpress.com/signup/?user=1

Once you have the new account set up, you can transfer your new blog to that account by following this guide:

    http://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-a-blog/#transferring-your-blog-to-another-user-or-account

You can then set up a Gravatar and public profile for that account that will be completely separate from your other profile. Please let me know if you have any questions about that!

    Thanks Timethief and Rachel!

Ok but then my username (of the new blog) will be lost in the process? Because I cannot delete this username and then re-install it again as a new, separate blog?

The thing is, I now have two blogs registered under one account, and I desperately want them separate as I want one to be anonymous and one not. But since one blog is already three years old and the other has my name, so both blog-domains feel like ‘me’ and it would be a shame if I had to give one of them up?

    Thanks again!

You won’t lose either blog or the blogs’ addresses with this process. You just need to set up a new account here:

    https://signup.wordpress.com/signup/?user=1

Once your new account is set up, you can transfer one of the blogs to the new account by following this guide:

    http://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-a-blog/#transferring-your-blog-to-another-user-or-account

Just be sure not to delete either of your blogs in the process, because deleting a blog is permanent and you can’t re-use a deleted blog address.
