gravatar in comments links to wrong website

  • Unknown's avatar

As the blogadmin for this site I occasionally post comments. When I do post them my gravatar appears along with my “Webmin” name. These are highlighted when one places a mouse on them. When clicked they go to another completely different website rather than to the one I’m working in. How can I stop this from occurring?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Not knowing if you are talking about commenting on wordpress.com blogs, or on self-hosted blog, or other sites that support gravatars, all I can do is respond generally.

If it is while you are logged into wordpress.COM and commenting on a wordpress.COM blog, then in your dashboard, go to users > my profile, scroll down and change the URL in the website field to the appropriate website.

If you are talking about outside of wordpress.COM, or when you are not logged into wordpress, then you have to head over to http://gravatar.com/ and fix it over there.

Thanks for the reply thesacredpath. I’ll try my best to be more specific here.

I created a WP blog for a local association and I administer it. Whenever I post either comments or articles on the blog it shows my gravatar along with the text “Webmin” plus the subject of the article. If one clicks on the article heading they are taken to the comment/article in question but if they click on the gravatar or “Webmin” it takes them to another website of mine which, to put it lightly, is an extremely controversial political site that is not in any way, shape or form, connected with the association in question. Obviously, it is not something that I want members of the association to be subjected to, even unwittingly, should they by chance click on “Webmin” instead of the article title.

Now I did go into the dashboard for the blog in question and I noted that I had the url to the “radical” website in there. I removed it and then saved the changes but after doing so when I returned to the blog and clicked on “Webmin” it still took me back to the original website causing the conflict. I also went into my Profile and to Gravatar.com and looked to see if there was anything within either of them where the url to the controversial site was posted but I couldn’t find anything in either of them.

I would have thought that by removing the url from the website field that that would have eliminated the problem but it doesn’t appear to be so.

The controversial website is also a WP program but was set up to be hosted by an ISP some years ago by an actual webmaster (which I ain’t) and so I cannot technically get into the background files etc to see if there’s anything I could do there to stop this process from occurring. I don’t have access to the webmaster any longer so I’m at a bit of a disadvantage there. I have contacted Support at the ISP for assistance but haven’t heard back yet at this point. Hope this makes a bit more sense.

    Thanks again,
    Arthur

I strongly suspect you are not referring to a free hosted wordpress.COM blog and those are the only blogs we provide support for on this forum. Please read this entry because I do believe you are referring to w wordpress.ORG install. If that’s the case you need to spot here > http://wordpress.OR/support/

    WordPress.com vs. WordPress.org

    Hi timethief.

No, the only site that’s not a free hosted one is the one that I referred to in my second post. I have two free hosted sites. http://www.cariboominingassociation.com/ and http://www. britishcolumbiachemtrailalert.wordpress.com/ The first one I paid the extra fee to get the .com rather than the wordpress.com but otherwise it’s the same as the second one. Both of them send readers to my paid for site when you click on gravatar “Webmin”. BTW the url you posted doesn’t work. I tried it three times but it doesn’t go anywhere. Thanks.
