Gravatar is not free to use logged out of wp.com

  • Unknown's avatar

I have separated my old Gravatar and my mailaddress [edit: email address removed for privacy] because i installed wordpress 3.3.1 at our server. Now i want to be able to comment on peoples blogs using just my new gravatar connected to the mail address mentioned, but everytime i try to comment i get the message that “this mail address is associated to a wordpress account. Log in to use it” This should not be!!! I have erased my address everywhere in my settings at wordpress.com. Why do i have to be logged in using my mail address??? I tried using a faked address and then i didnt have to log in! Are there any residues in wordpress.com that needs to be cleaned (and that i cant reach to clean) Please help me! This REALLY bugs me!!

Best greetings, and hoping to get a resolution to this… Lasse

ps. Can Akismet profile have anything to do with it?

    Hi there,

Could you please try resetting your password by entering your email address here?
    http://wordpress.com/wp-login.php?action=lostpassword

There appears to be a WordPress.com account tied to the email address you mention.

Once you reset your password, please log into WordPress.com, and then try to leave your comment.

Don’t hesitate to contact us again if you need anymore help. :-)

Hi again! Thanks for fast reply!

I have tried the mentioned link before, and I tried it again now. Using (email visible only to moderators and staff) this is what came up:

ERROR: There is no user registered with that email address.

Full story is messy, but i fiddled around a lot yesterday, and i was tired and confused. Now we have a login at wordpress (as writing here) connected with this login there is a Gravatar. In this i have connected my mailaddress (lasse@nat…) and an image. I also tried to create two other Gravatar accounts, and then using email aliases literally differing from lasse@.. None of these worked, i keep receiving the message

That email address is associated with an existing WordPress.com account, please log in to use it.

So, I log in using this account (user naturbilden, to which the Gravatar is connected in which i use lasse@…) but that doesn’t suffice. I can’t comment using any of these addresses – OR the address originally used in the wordpress account.

Furthermore i erased my account at Akismet just to make sure that was no obstruction.

Yesterday I made a comment using a non-existing address: (email visible only to moderators and staff), and that worked! I got a randomized avatar based on the email address as Gravatar has it.

This is way over my head, I need help. I won’t fidlde around anymore, it seems I can use this k@naturb… as address. I spawned it as an alias at our domain at one.com, so it is useable, and mails to it ends up at lasse@nat..

What I would like to have is just an avatar to use with my name and profile.

    * Can I have it without having a WordPress account?
    * Can my wife also have one i.e. we want to split the Gravatar, or use different
    mailaddresses and images?
    * Do we have to be logged into WordPress to be able to comment using this
Gravatar although our blog resides at one.com?
    (we discontinued our wordpress blog)

Best wishes, and please forgive stupid questions. It is hard to ask questions without full knowledge of the systems and how they interact.

    Lasse

  • You’ll need to log in to http://en.gravatar.com/ with your naturbilden WordPress.com account to add a Gravatar to it.

As for the error you see when commenting, you’ll need to be logged in to the appropriate WordPress.com account if you’re commenting with an email address attached to a WordPress.com or Gravatar account.

Seems now the problems is resolved… It still bugs me that I need to be logged into a blog i don’t use anymore… how come it doesn’t suffice being logged in at our server running the WordPress bundle… well well…

    Thanks for all help anyway.

    :) Lasse
