Gravatar Name linking problem
-
For some reason my name ( only on other people’s sites ) has lost it’s link. This is a problem, because some people disable the avatar link and then people are totally lost trying to find my blog. I am pretty confident that gravatar falls under .com support, so if you can please help me sort this out, that would be great!
See comment at the bottom of this page (S.D. McKinley):
This is my gravatar profile:
-
How the site operates is entirely up to the site’s owner, we don’t have any control over that.
-
Sir, I don’t think you are understanding the problem. The link on my name is gone on EVERY site I comment on.
-
Depending on how the site is laid out, there is typically a “Website” field in the comment form, that’s where you’ll enter your link.
Whether or not that option appears, or if the links are enabled, is entirely up to the site’s owner. We have absolutely no control over that.
-
I’m using my gravatar account. Evidently you don’t have enough couth to even ask questions, which is what is required in order to understand and resolve these issues. I would recommend getting your computer troubleshooting 101 book back out and reading it from front to back instead of like a manga novel, like you probably did to begin with.
I need to know who you manager is. Sir. Sir. Sir. Sir. Sir.
-
I’m sorry, the answer I have provided you is correct, and I am the manager.
We have absolutely no control over how site owners choose to operate the sites they own.
-
Let me put this in a way that you can understand it:
1. I was considering purchasing a WordPress.com, I’m which is what paid your bills and feeds your family, if in fact you have any at all. I probably definitely will not be purchasing on and will learn to live with the fact that my gravatar account used to work just fine and what you are saying is a bold faced lie.
2. Your acting sincere [expletive deleted] This fact is on you, not me.
3. The fact that you don’t take your job seriously, means you need to reconsider your whole position in the universe. I don’t know for a fact, but I’m pretty sure others would agree.
4. This will be submitted to reddit.com where it can be upvoted in your complete lack of moral interest.
5. These are people’s lives you are messing with, including your own.Good day to you. I hope you can sleep good at night knowing you did absolutely nothing of worth.
I deserve a second opinion on this issue.
-
I’m sorry sir, but just because this was not the answer you wanted to hear does not mean it’s incorrect.
We also ask that you please abide by the community standards here: https://wordpress.com/forums/topic/best-practices-community-standards/

I understand. Policy is policy. So can you enthuse me and at least explain or provide some sort of workaround solution or a suggestion. Anything?
-
There really is no work-around for it besides contacting the site’s owner and asking them to enable website links in their comments or just dropping your link inside your comment’s content.
-
Okay, so if I provide you with 5 more examples of other sites where my gravatar account displays the same behavior, you will still believe it is the website’s fault?
-
To be very clear, all we do is provide an image attached to an email address for Gravatar-enabled sites.
Those sites also have the option of having that link to your Gravatar profile, but we don’t force that or control that in any way.
-
Here’s three more examples of the same exact behavior on separate websites:
Now, what kind of logic are you working with where it is the website’s fault and not a gravatar problem?
-
I understand. What controls the link on your name? Your preferred website? Because mine is set to https://sdmckinley.com.
-
Your Gravatar is properly linked for me on all 3 of those sites, here’s a video from the first one: https://d.pr/v/XP9OXF
If it’s not working for you as depicted, first please make sure that your browser is up to date: https://browsehappy.com/
If it is not, please try updating your browser or switching to a different browser.
If it is, please do these two things:
1. Try clearing your browser’s cache and cookies.
2. Try with all browser extensions or add-ons temporarily disabled.
Please let us know how each step goes for you, and which browser (and version of) you’re using if you’re still having trouble.
-
(and to be clear, it’s definitely not working on the first site, linking appears to be disabled there)
-
What controls the link on your name?
If you’re logged in to your WordPress.com account and commenting on a site that utilizes WordPress.com comments, you’ll set that as the “Web address” at https://wordpress.com/me/account
If you’re not logged in to your WordPress.com account or not commenting on a site that utilizes WordPress.com comments, if the site owner wants it, there is typically a “Website” field in the comment form.
Whether or not links are allowed, or work, is up to the site’s owner.
