Gravatar Problems
-
I submitted these questions 4 months ago, and the topic was closed due to no replies. Re-submitting this with modlook tag to see if someone can help.
Two questions:
1. I updated my gravatar profile page because there was a typo in there. I deleted all 3 links that were in there to my 3 blogs. Now, even though I added all 3 links again, only 2 show. I can’t find what I did wrong and didn’t find anthing in the forums. My gravatar link: http://en.gravatar.com/kikiorleans2. I have a different gravatar for each of my 3 blogs. In the beginning, when I publish a post the reader used to show the respective gravatar but since we have the new reader layout it always shows the one from my main blog. Also, when I commented on other blogs changing identities, it showed the gravatar for the respective blog but now all my comments show with the gravatar from my main blog.
The blog I need help with is dinnerfornone.wordpress.com.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

A WordPress.com username account is a Gravatar account.
They are both owned by Automattic. You can have only one Gravatar for every username account regardless of how many blogs you register under it.
If you want to have a different Gravatar for each blog that will require registering multiple username accounts each with different email addresses, when you are logged out.
Then making them Admins of the blog you want to transfer to them http://en.support.wordpress.com/user-roles/ and transferring the blogs to the new username accounts. http://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-a-blog/#transferring-your-blog-to-another-user-or-account

Thank you for the links, timethief! I checked, and actually did everything the gravatar support page said to do. Just had a Eureka moment when I played around in the WP Dashboard and under “all users” added the third blog link there. However, I should have been able to do that directly at gravator.com, which still didn’t work (and it used to, that’s what has me confused).
The other issue, though, still is that it used to work and now doesn’t – when I comment on a blog I can change my blog URL below the comment box, and by doing this the gravatar icon (or blavatar, which still shows correctly in the blog URL field) used to change to the respective blog’s icon. It showed up differently, too, to reflect whichever blog I was posting from when a new post appeared in the reader. It’s only since the dashboard and reader were updated 4 months ago that all show the same icon. It’s not that this is interfering with my blog work, but it used to be different and I’m trying to find out what happened.

I’m so sorry, but I’m not entirely sure what didn’t work for you at gravatar.com. Can you tell me the exact steps in a list?

Gravatars are tied to your email address. What you’re describing shouldn’t have been possible in the past from everything I know. It’s possible what you were seeing in the past was the blog icon (not the Gravatar itself which is an image associated with a username and not a blog)—I can’t say for sure though, since I don’t remember there ever being an option like the one you’ve described! What I can tell you is that there is no way to switch between user accounts like it seems you’re trying to do, and to comment on different blogs with different username, you do have to log out each time and log back in as the username you’d like to use for the comment you’re making.
Here’s a trick that might work well for you as a solution though! Maybe try using a different browser for each username. That way, you can switch around between several different WordPress.com user accounts and always still be logged in for each one.

In gravatar.com I go to “edit links” and add the link and name of my 3rd blog. It then shows up but doesn’t save it. (As I mentioned to timethief, I have now done added the link in the WP dashboard, so it shows up.) But it used to work in gravatar.com – it wouldn’t let me add the 3rd link.
I’m aware of gravatars being tied to email adresses, and I only have one, I probably shouldn’t have called them gravatars here but blog icons, sorry. It used to be that when I posted from my photoblog, the post showed up in the reader with the blog icon from the photoblog, the same respectively for the 2 other blogs. Now posts from all 3 blogs show up with the same blog icon from my primary blog.
Re: the comments issue – when I click into a comment box, I get the option to make changes –> “You are commenting using your WordPress.com account. ( Log Out / Change )” – and when I clicked change and entered e.g. the URL for my photoblog, the comment showed up with the photoblog icon. Now it shows up with the primary blog icon.
I hope that explains the problem a little better. Thank you for looking into it!

I will investigate the Gravatar.com link issue. Thanks for reporting it.
Aha, now that you’ve described the “Log Out / Change” links for the comment form, I think I know what you mean! Here’s what I think happened: the Reader now opens posts in a contained view, one that is specific to the Reader itself. And the comment forms there do not have the “Change” link that you want. That “Change” link still exists, but the difference now is that you need to click through to the blog itself before you will see it. Before, that happened automatically because you were always pushed to the blog view.
You can still get to the comment form and find the “Log Out / Change” links, you just have to click through to the blog itself to see them. Will that work for you? Can you give it a try?

Here is a follow-up for the Gravatar issue you reported.
I tested adding a link at Gravatar.com, and it worked in my test. Here are the test steps I used:
1. Log in at http://gravatar.com/
2. Hover over the icon at the top right and click “Edit My Profile”
3. Click “My Links”
4. Fill out the Link URL and Link Title fields and click Add
5. Click the “View My Profile” linkI didn’t run into any problems. I tested using Firefox 21 on Mac OS X 10.8.3.

Thank you, designsimply. I took exactly those steps in gravatar.com, trying both IE as well as Firefox 21 on Windows 7. Doesnt’ work.
As for the blog icon issue, I’m afraid we’re talking about different things. The comment thing was just one example of where I used to see different blog icons and now I only see one.
Maybe this will explain it better:
when I published a post from dinnerfornone.wordpress.com the post showed up in the reader with the blog icon for that blog. When I published a post from throughalaywomanslens.com the new post showed in the reader with the blog icon from that post. Same for my 3rd blog. What happens now is posts from any of those 3 blogs show up in the reader with the blog icon for dinnerfornone.
Sorry for the confusion, hope this makes it clearer. -

If you see any specific error messages when it doesn’t work, then I could use information like that to try report the issue, but without more specific info like the error message or steps that will work for me to reproduce the problem, there isn’t much to go on to troubleshoot this further. Also, since you were able to fix the links via your WordPress.com dashboard, I’m inclined to leave this issue until there is more information available or steps for troubleshooting that work for other people.

I think a screenshot will help. I’ve made a new test post on my test blog and circled the Gravatar in the Reader. In this screenshot, the image is a Gravatar and not a blog icon and so it will only change if the user who made the post changes, it doesn’t matter which blog the post is made on: http://cl.ly/PraE
It’s possible the Reader used to display the icons differently, but this is how it’s setup now. In the current setup, you would need to log out of WordPress.com and log back in as a different user to get a different icon to show up in the spot circled in the screenshot above.

I guess then it’s just the way things show up in the reader now, I’ll live.. Thank you very much for looking into this!
