Gravatar screwing up image colours / gamma
-
I am trying to upload an image to Gravatar for our bug-tracking system and am having issues with the colours. Specifically, Gravatar appears to be messing with the brightness or gamma somehow.
Here are some screen-shots of what’s happening for me: http://imgur.com/a/cv4Om
Things i have tried:
– Re-saving the image with different editors
– Re-exporting the image with different colour profiles (sRGB, generic RGB, Adobe RGB)
– Stripping gamma and profile information with ImageOptim
– Various combinations of different profiles and stripping/not stripping gammaI have also tried saving as GIF instead of PNG — the same problem happens.
If i use JPEG, i do get accurate colours — however, Gravatar’s re-compression pretty much destroys the image quality.
Is this a known problem? I can’t find anything online or in the FAQ.

I don’t have a blog. I have an internal bug-tracking system which supports Gravatar, and am trying to set the avatar for our VCS account.
In any case, the problem is not related to the third-party sites that the images are being displayed on — it is on the Gravatar site itself.
