Gravatar site (lack of) usability
-
Why’s the Gravatar site permanently lacking HTML and failing to work? For example, no way to choose a photo from multiple images shown, no way to crop & save.
It’s pretty much unusable now.

I’m sorry you’re having trouble with the Gravatar site. Can you tell me more about the issues you’re having?

The site seems to be loading okay for me. Can you tell me what exactly isn’t working?
For example, no way to choose a photo from multiple images shown, no way to crop & save.
Do you mean that the buttons to do this are missing? Or when you click on them nothing happens?

Surprised this isn’t commonly known by other users, as I’ve had the problem a long time, and only with the Gravatar website. I’d attach a screenshot if I could.
I have 3 potential Gravatars at https://secure.gravatar.com/emails. It says ‘Select image (below)’ – but hovering over them doesn’t change the cursor, so they can’t be selected.
If I add a new image, at https://secure.gravatar.com/gravatars/crop… it says ‘Crop your photo using the dotted box below’ – but there isn’t a dotted box.

Are you running one of the browsers and versions of them found here http://browsehappy.com? If not please upgrade your version.

I use the most recent Firefox. Tried Chrome, though, and that’s fine!
Didn’t think to try a different browser before, as Gravatar is the only website where I’ve had this problem. But at least I’ve got a solution.
Thank you.

Do you have any add-ons or extensions installed in Firefox? If you do, please try disabling them to see if that makes a difference for you. (It’s possible one of them is interfering here.)

I disabled all extensions, and the Gravatar site worked fine. I have a lot of extensions, so it would take a long time to find the culprit by elimination. Would you suspect an extension performing a particular role?
The easiest answer for me is to just use Chrome, but your answer may help others.
Thanks.

It’s really hard to say without knowing what extensions you’re using, although something like a script-blocker could be causing trouble. The best way to troubleshoot an issue like this is to turn the extensions back on one-by-one until you run into the problem again.
I’m glad Chrome is working well for you, though!
