Gravatars – how can I add them to a comment?

Might sound stupid, but I couln’t find the answer myself…

In order to show your gravatar in a comment you leave you have to add the mailadress you made your gravatar-account with, don’t you? I didn’t find the “how to add”-information anywhere…

In case that’s wrong: How do I do it?
In case that’s right: Why doesn’t it work?

I have a selfhosted wordpress-blog and installed the plugin “gravatar”. I also changed the code and now can see the “G” where the gravatars will be. But… how do I add my personal gravatar? I do have an account at gravatar.com, but nontheless I always don’t see my gravatar but this “G” – no matter whether I’m logged in or not. I do use the right mailadress…

It would be great if someone could tell me what’s wrong. Thanks!
