Gravitar's True Identity

  • Unknown's avatar

I have created a private blog, by invitation only. Sometimes, I receive requests to approve a reader that I know I’ve already invited because their gravatar is the same as their email address. However, at other times, the gravatar name is foreign to me–either because a friend has made a creative gravatar…or perhaps because a stranger has requested an invitation to join the group. How do I discern who belongs to any given gravatar…and if they’re friend or foe?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • The only way I can think of is to actually go to their Gravatar page or their blog and see if their real name appears there. As users only need an email address to sign up for a Gravatar account there’s no way to get that information unless the user includes it on his/her profile. You can’t see the email address they used to register their account unless they also include that under public information.

The other option is to ask. Their request to join should include an email address. Email them and ask.
