Gray screen
-
I am asking for a friend, as she’s completely unable to log in to WordPress.com
When she clicks “Login”, it shows the correct URL, but all she can see is a gray screen with the W logo on it.
She is using Chrome, it is the latest version. She has a website on WordPress.com. Any ideas?

Hi there!
Do you know by any chance the address of her WordPress.com site?
Also, I’d recommend trying the following steps to see if that helps:
1. Clear the browser cache. Here’s how to clear your browser cache: https://en.support.wordpress.com/browser-issues/#clearing-your-browser-cache
2. Log in from a different browser temporarily to see if that works.Regards

It’s lotusmedance.wordpress.com
Since posting here, she has managed to log in on another computer so it must be a local issue. However she has already cleared her browser cache several times so I’m a bit stuck what else to recommend.

Hi there,
If it’s not the cache, and based on the symptoms you described, it sounds like something might be blocking JavaScript code from running in the browser. JavaScript can be disabled from a browser’s settings, but can also be blocked by various browser add-ons, especially ad blockers and some anti-malware and privacy add-ons. So ask your friend to try disabling all browser add-ons and see if that helps.
Another option is something stuck in the computer’s DNS cache. It’s less likely, but if disabling add-ons, or using a different browser on the same computer doesn’t work, flushing the computer’s DNS cache can’t hurt. She’ll have to search Google for the instructions for her specific version of Windows/MacOS for doing this.
