Grey box covers half my screen while writing

    I’m now getting a huge black box that covers half my screen while writing a post. I would show you a picture of it, but I don’t know how to do that here. I write about 100 words or so, then I run into a greyed area making it hard to see what I’m typing. It makes no sense and I have no idea what’s wrong or how to fix it. There’s no topics about it. It just started happening today.
    I’ve been writing on WordPress since 2010 and it’s gone downhill since this bock editing happened. So many glitches, not a good blogging experience. I’m very frustrated with WP.
