Greyed out Update button

  Each time I try to add a caption to an image, the Update button stays grey.

  I see that you switched from the classic to the Block editor quite a few times. Is this happening on both editors? Also, are you using the WP Admin dashboard or the new interface at https://wordpress.com/ ?

  Yes – whenever I try and switch to Block Editor on the 1981 page (I presume every page), I have a lot of HTML code visible AND no obvious way to add a caption to the photograph.

  So, I just switch back to Classic.

  I’m using the WP Admin dashboard, I think.

  Often, though, I navigate to the page I need to edit, then scroll to the bottom and click “Edit”.

  Would love to get it back to how it was before my brief look at Block Editor.

  This should not happen on pages/posts created directly with the Block editor. My guess is that there was an issue when converting your page from Classic to Blocks. Have you seen this error when converting?

  If so, please follow the steps outlined on the page I linked to resolve that. It should work correctly after that.

  Still struggling.

  fresatomica – I don’t get an error message when converting from Classic to Blocks.

  However, I do see HTML style coding – which makes me revert to Classic.

  The trouble is – I can’t add or amend a photo caption in Classic as the “Update” button is greyed out.

  I have had some success by adding a new photograph and captioning that.

  It is still not working for amending the caption of an existing photograph.

  For now, I’ll just replace the ones that the captions need changing.

  I was just going to suggest that – replacing the images that need to be updated.
  It looks like something went awry when changing to Blocks.
  It wouldn’t happen for any new post/page that you will add but, in case it does, do let us know and we’ll have another look.
