Hello,
Can someone help me on setting a grid page for my blog? Sela theme looks really good but how to make my blog looks the same like the example? And my featured images of all of my posts are cut off.
Please .. Thank you.

Hi,
Are you still interested in creating a grid page on a site with the Sela theme activated? When I visited https://monyetdarijava.wordpress.com/ a few hours ago it was set on the Karuna theme, and now the theme is Expound. Secondly, when you refer to a “grid page,” are you talking about a page with the grid page template assigned, or something else?
-
I just changed it back to Sela. Please take a look. Isn’t different than on the demo?!
Thanks a lot.
-
I think now I somewhat figure it out. But I still dont understand why my featured images are cut off.

Featured images are different from site header images. See the Featured Images and Custom Header Images support page. See also the Sela theme guide.
There are several differences between the way your theme and the Sela demo are set up. These include:
1. The Sela demo has a static front page, whereas your front page is set to display the latest posts. This can be changed at Customize > Static Front Page > Front page displays….
2. Your site evidently has a custom header image set. On the Sela theme, the site header displays on the blog page, static pages, single posts, and archives pages. The Sela demo does not have a site header image set, so a header image does not display anywhere on the site. Instead, it used featured images.
3. The static front page of the Sela demo has the special Front Page Template assigned. See the “Setting up your front page” section of the Sela theme guide for instructions on how to set up the front page using the front page template. The front page template may be assigned to any static page, not just a page set as the front page. I don’t find any evidence of the front page template being used on your site.
4. The Sela demo has widgets on the front page, inserted in the special front page widget areas included in the front page template. One of the front page widgets on the Sela demo links to a page with the grid page template assigned, https://selademo.wordpress.com/page-templates/grid-page/. I mention this last aspect of the demo because you originally asked about “setting a grid page.”

But I still dont understand why my featured images are cut off.
As I mentioned above, what you are referring to as featured images are (I think) the site header image. Are you not referring to the image of a monkey? Header images are automatically cropped on the Sela theme. At Customize > Header images, you’ll find the note
While you can crop images to your liking after clicking Add new image, your theme recommends a header size of 1180 × 160 pixels.
The theme automatically displays images at this size, though the background image will remain the size of the original file image. If you begin with a larger image and skip cropping, or crop it to some dimensions larger in width and height than 1180 x 160, it will still display at 1180 x 160, with one exception. The height of the displayed portion of the header image may be increased somewhat by adding a tagline.
I don’t know if staff is aware that using the header image cropping tool has no effect on the displayed result on the Sela theme, so I’m going to call for staff attention to the topic.

with one exception
Actually, at least three factors affect the height of the displayed portion of the header image:
1. Heading font size, which can be set at Customize > Font > Headings.
2. Inclusion of a tagline.
3. Length of the tagline, if included. -
Factor #4, inadvertently omitted above:
4. The dimensions of the screen. On a thin screen, such as a cell phone or a tablet, viewed at portrait orientation, the height of the header image could increase significantly, depending upon the length of the site title and tagline, each of which could be extended to multiple lines as the width of the screen is narrowed. Of course, the screen dimensions affect both the height and width of the header image.

Thank you so much for your answers. To be honest, I still quite understand. I still don’t know each steps on how to build a grid page.
I already changed to Static Page. But when I went to Widgets, there’s no option “First Front Page Widget Area”. So I am confused.Things got me confused from here:
“The Front Page Template includes the following:A featured area with a full-width featured image and an overlay containing the page content.
Three front-page widget areas, displayed side-by-side in columns, managed under Customize → Widgets. This is where you can get creative and use any of the available widgets to feature products or services, or showcase different parts of your website. See below for detailed setup used on the demo site.
The Testimonial area, configured under Customize → Testimonials, displays two testimonials. To add a testimonial, go to Testimonials → Add New in your WP Admin dashboard. If no testimonials are added, this section will not be displayed.”And so on ….
I guess I just have a lot in minds for now. I probably will go back to Expound until I can figure this all out and I have spare time to click around.
And about the picture, I tried to change the font size of the post title, and the post’s featured images are still cut off.
Thank you so much for your help. I really appreciate it.

Hi @monyetdarijava, we can help if you’d like, but let’s take it a step at a time.
Step one is to edit the home page and set the template to Front Page.
Step two is to decide what three things you want in the columns on the front page: please have your text and images ready.
When you’ve got that much done, let us know and we’ll help you find your place in the setup guide.

Hi @monyetdarijava, you’re using another theme already. Do you want to just roll with that?
Or, the next step (step two) would be to decide what images and text you want to feature on the front page, and let us know what those are, so we can continue on to the next step. (All of these steps are in the sela setup document, by the way, if you want to skip ahead. It’s just a matter of putting the right HTML in each widget.)
-
Step one is done. I already set it Front Page.
Step one has not been taken. I noticed on the 31st soon after @monyetdarijava’s latest post and again yesterday that while the Sela theme was still activated step one had not been completed. The front page was displaying the latest posts, and consequently could not have the front pate template set on it.
Now that the Expound theme has been activated, the front page is still set to display the blog page.
-
Thanks. Expound may just be a better fit for the content. We’ll wait to see what they say.

my blog initially had the pictures displaying at the top with the grid of six pictures with subject of the blog in the six images all together with two pictures at the bottom with separate subject underneath. Now it has gone upside down and the bottom two subjects have been placed at the top and the 6 images have gone to the bottom how can i fix this and put them back to the top.

It looks like you may have posted this question on another thread as well – I’ve answered there.
Generally it’s best to start your own thread for new questions, rather than posting to several existing threads :)
If you have new questions later on, you can start a new thread from here:

@Supernovia and @MusicDoc1:
If I didn’t do the step one yet, how to do it then? I went to customize and click on static front page. Unless thats not how to do it?
See … I wish there’s a clear step by step (and where its located) on how to do it.
Thats why I think I will stick to Expound for now. I didnt have to change stuff with Expound. Everything was automatically set like that. I give a 5-star for this theme.
But thank you all anyway. Next time if I want to change to Sela, I know who to reach out to :) Thank you very much :)

Clicking on the “Static Front Page” link at Customize isn’t enough. It’s a small part of step 1, like lifting the heel as you prepare to step.
Here’s “step 1” in a nutshell:
1. Set a static page as the front page, and assign the Front Page Template to that page. Both of these half steps are required in order to obtain the type of front page featured in the Sela theme guide and the Sela demo.
<p style=”padding-left: 30px;”>a. Setting a static page as the front page — See the Set a Static “Home” Page (Front Page) support page.

<p style=”padding-left: 60px;”>i. Go to Customize > Static Front Page > Front page displays, and check “A static page.”

<p style=”padding-left: 60px;”>ii. From the drop-down menu labeled “Front page” select a static page to serve as the front page.

<p style=”padding-left: 60px;”>iii. (Optionally) From the second drop down menu, labeled “Posts page,” select another page to serve as the posts page or blog page.

<p style=”padding-left: 60px;”>iv. Click the Save & Publish button.

<p style=”padding-left: 30px;”>b. Assigning the Front Page Template to the static front page — See the Template section of the Page Options support page, which says:
<p style=”padding-left: 30px;”>Some themes have additional templates that you can use to create pages with additional features or custom layouts. You can see if your current theme has any additional templates by checking the Template section of the Page Options module.

Sorry about that. I’ve posted the same set of instructions in a comment on your “About Me” page. The formatting I used, with all the padding for indentation, doesn’t display properly on the Expound theme, but it looks a lot better than it does here. The formatting displays perfectly with the Sela theme.
