Grid/Table with thumbnails each with its own pop-up

  Hi all,

  I’ve been struggling with a vision, which I know is achievable in html, for the past 15 hours and am rapidly loosing my sanity. Any help would be appreciated.
  I want to produce a Page on which there is a grid/table with each cell containing a separate thumbnail image. When the mouse pointer hovers over or ‘clicks’ on a thumbnail it opens up a pop-up containing information concerning that image.
  I’ll plod on but WordPress is new to me and I’m still a novice with it.
  Many thanks in anticipation, as I know someone will have the answer which hopefully I’ll be able to follow.

  I’ve installed ‘Infopopup’ which produces a shortcode to produce a Pop-up Window, great. However it only works as an embedded shortcode. I would like to click on an image to open the pop-up. Is this at all possible.
