Grouping Galleries
-
Hi
I have a page of galleries from different authors. Is there any way of grouping galleries with similar themes together? Or adding any text to the page?
For example, I’d like:
CPAGB Prints:
Several related galleries grouped together here.Member’s Galleries:
Several related galleries grouped together here. The page I need help with is https://penrithcameraclub.co.uk/galleries-2/ I don’t know if this is relevant but the page is set up as a Gallery template page.
Thanks in advance for any help.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there, Since this is a Premium theme, you do have the option of getting assistance directly from the theme author when you post to the special Premium theme forum for Photography here: https://premium-themes.forums.wordpress.com/forum/photography when you are logged in with the username account that purchased the theme or upgrade.
For general set up information on this theme, the best place to start is the theme’s showcase page at https://wordpress.com/theme/photography
Hope that helps.

Hi
I’ve taken over the Club website and the person who purchased the theme isn’t available at the moment, so I’m not able to ask the question on the premium themes forum.
I just assumed galleries worked the same way regardless of the theme which is why I posted here.

Hello again, let me mark this for Staff assistance as that page you linked to is using a special page template and not the standard Gallery feature as described on this page https://en.support.wordpress.com/gallery/
Thanks for your patience while they get back to you.
Also, if you have any WordPressdotcom upgrade plan and are logged in with the account that purchased the upgrade, you also have access to direct Support via LiveChat and email when you post through the contact form at https://wordpress.com/help/contact

Hi there,
I’m afraid that page cannot be configured in this way. The Gallery Page template of your theme only displays the gallery posts you add to it, in the order you add them. The only way to “group” galleries on the page would be to order them so related galleries are grouped together.
Another option would be to create separate gallery pages for the different categories of gallery.

If the person who originally created the site and owns the Premium Plan is no longer responsible for the site’s maintenance, they might want to consider transferring ownership of the site and upgrades to your account. That way you’ll be able to contact live chat support, renew the upgrades, etc. You can always add them back as an admin or editor afterwards if they still need access.

Thanks for the quick reply, that’s been helpful.
Can I just clarify that I can add no text whatsoever to a gallery template page?

Text added to the page content will not display if the page is set to this template, no.
But there is a way – your site is on the Premium Plan which allows custom CSS, and CSS can be used to insert text before or after another element on the page. For example, this code can add some text above the gallery thumbnails:
/* * Add text at top of gallery * page */ .page-template-gallery .landscape-gallery::before { content: "hello"; }Edit the content between quotes to what you actually want to display. And you can modify the “before” to “after” to add it at the bottom. Adding inbetween is also possible, but it starts to get complicated, as this text cannot be styled in any way – it can just be plain text, without line or paragraph breaks, no links, bold, italic, or anything like that.
