Groups and file sharing possible?

We are looking for a solution where password protected groups can upload files into their group. I know I can do password protected areas but couldn’t find the upload functionality for users, just posting comments.
Is that doable? Also, can we purchase additional storage if needed?

In order to allow users to upload files, they would need to be added as a user on the blog:

Currently, there isn’t a method for non-users to upload to your blog (even with a password protected page). You could add the users as an “Author”:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/user-roles/
That way, they can upload and publish their own posts, but not edit other posts. Would that work?
