GTalk chatback badge
-
Hi all,
There an easy way to integrate gtalk inside a blog, this is gtalk chatback and it is essentially an iframe tag to include in the page:
http://www.google.com/talk/service/badge/Newwhat do you think about add this widget among ‘available’ widgets?
-
Giancarlo, iframes are not allowed on wordpress.com, but, since you have a self-hosted blog, it shouldn’t be a problem for you to add it.
-
Yes, unfortunately we can’t add it. But it would be a great addition as an WP.com widget. Similar to the Meebo one I guess, but better for those of us that are connected to our Gmail accounts for the better part of every day. :-)

Hi,
I’ve never done a widget for wordpress before. But thought my site will need a widget for googletalk chatback, and I can’t find any… so i made one.if you guys are interested, here’s the plugin
http://databinge.com/files/gtalk.zipI don’t plan to support this if this doesn’t work.. because I am not familiar with wordpress widget .. I’m sure someone will make a great one soon.. but for those that can’t wait..
-
Sorry, that won’t work here. We don’t have the ability to use plugins. You might want to promote that at http://wordpress.org
-
i’m in for that… let’s vote for it… i’m sure gtalk is much more popular than a meebo account. it would be a nice addition

Although staff considers blogger suggestions you have to remember that this is not a democracy.

Thank peeinmypantz for the great job. I will continue working on this and will put up a plugin on http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/google-talk-chatback/ very soon.
-
I just noticed your discussion and I wanted to mention I added such plugin yesterday http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/google-talk-sidebar-widget-10/
-
I simply added a text wigdet using the following text:
Chat with me (check my status first)
you have to paste the complete personal address (with the part after “tk=”) from the link displayed in your badge (http://www.google.com/talk/service/badge/New).The badge is only one click away: it’s a partial and rudimentary workaround, but it’s not so bad after all.
-
You need to re-post that code. Put it between backticks, so it displays properly. Backticks are those things on the same key as ~.
Alax, plugins are irrelevant here. We do not use plugins.
-
Ok. Here it is. It’s a simple link, anyway.
<a href="http://www.google.com/talk/service/badge/Show?tk=.......">Chat with me (check my status first)</a> -
-
That is a good idea, gda78, but it works strangely…it sends you to a page that displays the badge (thus the “check my status first” I guess), then you can click to chat.
I hope WordPress adds this functionality as a native widget soon. This is a much better tool than Meebo.
