Can I have a guest blogger on the same domain as my main blog? Also, does WordPress archive my blog posts and pages that I’ve spent hundreds of hours creating? Is there another way to ensure back-up archiving?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi there,

Can I have a guest blogger on the same domain as my main blog?

If you want to invite a guest blogger to post on your blog, you can do that by inviting them to be a user on your blog and contribute to it. We have more information about that here: Inviting Contributors, Followers, and Viewers

Is that what you are looking to do? If not, if you can give a few more details about what you’d like to set up for your guest blogger, I can help you figure out if that’s possible.

Also, does WordPress archive my blog posts and pages that I’ve spent hundreds of hours creating? Is there another way to ensure back-up archiving?

When your blog is hosted here at WordPress.com, we take care of all the backups so you don’t have to worry about it.

However, if you invite other users to be editors or administrators on your blog, they will have the power to delete blog posts and pages, so it isn’t a bad idea to back up that content manually from time to time. You can do that by exporting your blog’s contents under Tools > Export in your dashboard.

Please let me know if you have any questions about that. :)

Thanks, Rachel. My guest blogger is not already a blogger on wordpress or anywhere else and I want to host a distinct blog for her on my blog site / domain.
Good to know about the archiving because my blog is as much of a historical archive as anything else.

    Hi there,

Your site/domain at lithspringfield.com can only host one blog, but if you want to set up a separate blog for your guest blogger you can do that on a subdomain of your blog. For example, that blog could be at guest.lithspringfield.com.

To do that, you would need to register a separate blog for your guest blogger first. Then, you can fset up the subdomain pointing to their blog. We have more instructions for how to do that here: Adding a Subdomain if your Domain is Mapped to WordPress.com

Please let me know if you have any questions about that. :)
