Guidance on WordPress.com plan for blog module integration
-
We are currently running our own standalone application and are considering moving only the Blog Module to WordPress.com, while keeping the rest of our application separate. The blog would be hosted under our existing domain (e.g., ourdomain.com/blog).
Before choosing a plan,
we would like to confirm which pricing tier would best support the features we require,Domain setup -To connect our already running domain to WordPress.com only for the blog section (e.g., ourdomain.com/blog).
Admin blog management (full control for administrators).
Role-based access for blog editors/writers with limited permissions.
Admin approval workflow so that drafted posts are published only after admin approval.
Role-based access for blog editors/writers with limited permissions.
Blog reading page where users can browse and read published posts.
Security SSL certificates, automatic backups, and protection against spam/malware.
Adequate storage space for blog posts, images, and other media files.Could you please advise
Which WordPress.com plan (Personal, Premium, Business, etc.) includes these features?
Whether additional plugins or tools are needed to set up the role-based access and approval workflow.
Any limitations we should be aware of when integrating WordPress.com blog under our current domain.
How WordPress.com handles security, backups, and data protection for blogs. We are looking for the most cost-effective plan that meets these requirements.
Thank you for your guidance.Best regards,

Hello @adharshrankrizers,
Thank you for sharing the details of your setup and what you’re aiming to achieve. I’d love to help you get your blog running on WordPress.com in the way that best fits your needs.
Having your blog available under an extension like ourdomain.com/blog isn’t possible at WordPress.com, but what you can do is create a subdomain such as blog.ourdomain.com and connect it to your WordPress.com site. Here’s a guide with the steps: https://wordpress.com/support/domains/connect-subdomain/
The good news is that once you’re on any of our paid plans, domain connection and SSL are included at no extra cost. SSL is provided automatically for all hosted domains, so your blog will be secure from the start. More details here: https://wordpress.com/support/domains/https-ssl/
Based on the features you’ve listed, full admin control, role-based access for writers and editors, draft approvals, a blog reading page, and enough storage for content and media, the Premium Plan is a strong fit. It includes Plugins, Premium Themes, 13GB storage, custom CSS and styles, and advanced design options. You can find all the features included and also compare with our other plans here: https://wordpress.com/pricing/
The permissions and workflows you described are already built into WordPress software. You can invite users and assign roles (administrator, editor, author, etc.) to control who does what on the site: https://wordpress.com/support/invite-people/user-roles/
Posts always go through an approval step if writers only have Author/Contributor permissions, so no additional plugins are needed for that.
If you’d like a dedicated blog page on your site, that’s also possible. You can set it up by following these steps: https://wordpress.com/support/create-a-separate-page-for-blog-posts/
And for browsing posts, WordPress.com has the Reader, where users can follow your blog and stay updated: https://wordpress.com/support/reader/I’d recommend starting with our AI site builder to set up your blog’s design in minutes without needing templates or coding. Publishing with AI requires at least the Premium Plan, which is a cost-effective balance for the features you outlined. You can explore this here: https://wordpress.com/support/ai-website-builder/
Let me know if you have any other questions or need further guidance. I’d be happy to help!
