Guided transfer

  Hi, I’m about to sign up to do a guided transfer but I just wanted to double-check that what it is is what I’m after (sorry I’m really bad at this stuff!).

  I want to import my blog into my new WordPress website, including all of my blogs so far, into the framework of my new site. A friend just created my website and this is what she’s said I should ask for. . . .

  “Essentially you want to export all your posts from the blog. Then you want to import them into your current website. You’ll see in your admin I’ve already activated a WordPress Importer plugin, which imports posts, pages, comments, categories etc from the file you export from your old blog.

  “Tell them this is the theme your current site is based on, and it easily allows a blog page, which you can see in the demo here: http://demo.themeum.com/starter/

  “In the pages tab in your admin you’ll see a page there at the moment called Blog. You can easily go into that and change the title to Just Eat the Food, and change the url to /justeatthefood. You could do this right now. As far as I can tell, once you do that it’s all set up and ready to go, it’s just a matter of importing the blog posts, styling them, making sure all the images come across correctly, etc.

  “You don’t want to just link out to your blog. You want it so that when you make new posts, you are doing it from your new website’s admin. This will be best for SEO. It will also mean you can set up your Email Subscribers plugin to automatically notify people when new posts are published.”

  Could you please let me know if this is all covered under the guided transfer $129 fee?

  Hi Cassie!

  The Guided Transfer upgrade does cover the majority of things you’re after. We’ll definitely make sure that all of your posts, pages, and media files are moved to your self-hosted site so that your content is up and running. We’ll also make sure you have Jetpack installed and you can install the plugins you want.

  The Guided Transfer upgrade does not include theme customizations. So, if you’re looking for someone to answer a theme question about a theme at WordPress.com that you’re also using on your self-hosted site, we can do that. However, we cannot provide support for third-party themes (those that you’ve purchased elsewhere). Does that help to clarify?

  The Guided Transfer isn’t required to move your site. It’s just a helping hand if you need it!
