Guided transfer and LaTeX

  • Unknown's avatar

I am considering moving to a wordpress.org site primarily because I use quite a lot of math, and the Latex implementation on wordpress.com produces aesthetically displeasing results.

If I purchase a “guided transfer,” can I have the new site configured to use the MathJax plugin, and will the math in my existing posts be transferred correctly (I think the formatting to invoke the Latex intepreter is slightly different in Mathjax).

    Thanks, Chris.

Thanks, but it is ambiguous what this means:

“Installing and configuring Jetpack and a few other plugins to provide features that you have been using on WordPress.com”

Latex is a feature of wordpress.com I have been using, but it is not clear how that feature will be implemented on wordpress.org. Does Jetpack merely reproduces the same ugly math that wordpress.com produces, or can I specify that Mathjax be used instead (I think the existing math then needs some reformatting, although it should be fairly easy to automate).

    Oops, according to

    MathJax-LaTeX

there is a setting which allows Mathjax to supports the syntax wordpress uses to invoke Latex, so there should be no reformatting required.

Can someone then confirm that I can: purchase a Guided Transfer, install Mathjax myself (or will wordpress staff do this too as one of the “few other plugins” supported?), specify the option to allow Mathjax to parse wp-latex, and everything should work fine and be transparent to readers?

If you purchase Guided Transfer, our staff will help you with installing WordPress on your provider and transferring your content. You will then be welcome to install any plugins you wish. Because our staff did not write the plugin Mathjax, they may be willing to install the plugin but would not be able provide direct support for configuring it. However, you can obtain Mathjax support here: http://wordpress.org/support/plugin/mathjax-latex

    Hi there,

Yes, your existing LaTeX will transfer. You can actually keeping doing exactly what you are doing right now. One of the plugins we install (Jetpack) provides the same LaTeX support you have at WordPress.com.
