Guided transfer from WP to Host gator, now site has vanished

  • Unknown's avatar

I’ve paid for a guided transfer from WordPress to Host Gator. I went through the whole process and had scheduled the transfer for last Thursday. I got an e-mail on Friday saying the transfer was complete. The site was up and working for a while but all of a sudden the site completely vanished. Now when I go to my site http://theendofiles.com/ I see a page for Blue Host and it looks as if my site has become a dummy page or a search engine of some sort. When I go to the admin section I see the same Blue Host page. I can’t access the dashboard. I have no idea what happened. I don’t think anyone will be back in the word Press office until January 2nd, but I’m desperate to get this resolved so I can blog again and avoid losing more readership than I already have. I’ve done a guided transfer with my other site http://lifewithlauren.com/ and none of this happened. The site stayed live the whole time and the whole process took about a day and then I was able to add new content again. I’m stumped. Any help would be much appreciated!

What is the wordpress.com URL that was associated with this site: http://theendofiles.com/ or that you were tranferring to that site?

This thread has been tagged for staff attention so hopefully someone will respond soon.

  • http://theendofiles.com/ seems to be just fine to me.

If you’re still having trouble, please reply directly to your Guided Transfer email, and our Guided Transfer folks will help you as soon as possible.

It’s working now because I couldn’t wait any longer and paid a freelancer to do the transfer for me. I sent four emails and got no response and had to figure out a way to get my site live again. I’m trying to get a refund from WP now.

It’s best not to schedule major transfers like this over the holidays. Staff are officially off until January 2nd, which is probably why your guided transfer wasn’t as guided as it should have been.

And before you do, you don’t have to tell me that the Store should have a warning every time support is closed. I know.

I wish that when I was scheduling the transfer someone said, “Oh hey, btw, we’ll be gone from December 25-January 2nd soooo you might want to pick another day. Or be prepared to be without help for a while.” OR better yet maybe they could have completed the job instead of finishing half of it and then leaving the rest for when they returned. I understand and appreciate vacation. I do not understand nor appreciate taking someone’s money and then leaving their site offline for two weeks and forcing them to get someone else to fix the issue while they avoid e-mails, only to return an e-mail once the problem is fixed.
