Guided Transfer – I've already purchased a new theme, install as normal?

Hi, there– So I’m going to transferring a client site from WordPress.com to a .org site. Couple of questions:

    1. They’ve registered their domain through WP.com, does that need to be transferred out, or can the registration remain with WP.com? And pros and/or cons?

    2. Hosting transfer– Does that come included in the $129 Guided Tour package? You handle the transferring on your end?

    3. The client has already picked out and purchased WP.org theme to be used with the new site. When you do the Guided Transfer, you install the WP.org installation on the new hosting, and I upload and activate the theme like on a normal WP.org?

    4. What kind of involvement will be needed from? Providing FTP, MySQL info, or is there more?

    Thanks so much!

    Hi dreamlocal,

I do recommend a read through of the documentation if you haven’t seen it yet. In answer to your questions:

    1. It can remain or be transferred (separately from the Guided Transfer) as you prefer. The general reason to transfer it out is ease of administration. You’re certainly welcome to configure it to auto-renew and leave it here though as well.

    2. Yes, we move your entire site to the new host. The actual hosting cost (monthly fee to the new web host) is not included and will be an ongoing expense to the new host when we’re done.

    3. Yep, exactly. It’s a normal WP.org site–just loaded with all the user’s content and preconfigured to mimic WP.com as closely as possible.

    4. We require the hosting to be with one of the hosts we recommend:
    http://get.wp.com/gt-hosting

We will need the primary hosting credentials when we get started (to install WP, etc).

    Cheers.
