Guided Transfer Questions

    Looking to do a guided transfer to the .org platform and have a number of questions:

    1) Have the Chateau theme…will that transfer over exactly as it is currently on WordPress.com?

    2) Need clarity on what the transfer entails. Once I pay, will the WordPress staff do ALL the work, or is it a skeleton transfer with me doing the majority of the setup?

    3) Will I be able to speak with a WordPress staff member during the transfer or is it all done via email?

    4) If I choose, can I ever go back to the .com platform?

    Here’s the full description of the Guided Transfer service, but I’m not sure about the mode of communication. I’ll tag this for staff to look at so you can get a definitive answer.

    Otherwise:

    –the Chateau theme does not seem to be in the wp.org theme repository, and the version at wordpress.com would have been edited for the platform. It seems the developer carries a version for self-hosted blogs here.

    –you could go back to the .com platform if you keep your account and your blog url active in the meantime. Staff will be able to tell you best practices for that.

    Thanks so much for the info…very helpful, particularly information about the Chateau theme.

    I had read the Guided Transfer description prior to writing and am still not clear about how much of the work the WordPress staff does vs. what I have to do. That is paramount to my decision. Can you please provide some more details?

    Howdy,

    1. We’ll transfer the Chateau theme for you. One new feature we have is the ability to download free WordPress.com themes for your self-hosted site. You’ll find a link at the bottom-right of each WordPress.com theme we have for download ( http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/chateau/ ). In the case of Guided Transfer, we take care of this for you.
    2. We’ll setup your site to look as close to what you see on WordPress.com as possible, which is usually really darn close.
    3. All is done by e-mail. After purchase, you’ll get an e-mail from the GT team asking you to purchase hosting from the list at http://get.wp.com/hosting and to submit credentials so we can access your hosting account. The team will schedule the transfer and keep you in the loop as well.
    4. You’re always welcome to come back to WordPress.com, though we do not have a Guided Transfer service for returning. Your WordPress.com will still be here.

    In short, we do everything we can so that you have to worry/do as little as possible to make the transition happen.

    I would like to book a guided transfer as soon as I can but there is banner informing that Happiness Engineers are away at the moment. Any idea when the service will be available again?

    Thanks for your understanding and patience. We’re gearing up for our once-a-year all-hands company meeting (we work all over the world—check out the map at the bottom of http://automattic.com/about/ —so we gather once a year in person to knock out some things) so we close GT to new orders so we can finish up all in the queue and not ask anyone to pay and then wait weeks.

    Dear Happiness Engineer,
    I have managed with the help of your wonderful website to move my blog from wordpress.com to wordpress.org.

    However, please could you help me with transferring my followers and subscribers.

    Also if I previously owned one domain and now have a new domain name . How will my followers find me or be re-directed?
