Guided Transfer When Using a Custom Theme

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi, I’m planning on moving my blog from wordpress.com to wordpress.org and I plan on using the Guided Transfer option. I’m wondering if I can use the Genesis theme, with a childs theme and still have my blog transferred using the guided transfer option? And, do I purchase service through a host like Bluehost first?

    The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    If Genesis is a Premium Theme it will not be transferred.

    I will flag this for the staff to give you more help. I would expect they have something that will have your new site look and work very much like it does now.

    I purchased a premium theme at WordPress.com. Will it be transferred?
    Premium themes purchased at WordPress.com are only valid here at WordPress.com.

    I think you may have misunderstood actually. I don’t have Genesis now, it’s a parent theme to be downloaded and used with wordpress.org sites. I want to download is and run a childs theme over it (e.g. http://www.studiopress.com/releases/fashionista-theme.htm) when I start my new wordpress.org blog. Genesis and the child’s theme are built by studiopress. I’m wondering if the Guided Transfer can be done with these themes or if I have a choose one from wordpress.org. Also, if I do have to do that, will I be able to download Genesis later and still have access to everything for my blog? I’m new to this so I’m not sure i completely understand how downloading and uploading things to wordpress.org and my host actually works.

    You should be able to change themes anytime and I would expect that you could use a child theme. But been a while since I had a .ORG site.

    The staff will should be able to give you a more definite answer, they can check with the Guided Transfer group for you

    Hi Ninashadi,

    The Guided Transfer will move your site over using your current theme. Once the transfer is complete, yes, you can install and use Genesis and its children at any time. That won’t cause a problem at all.

    @hewsut

    Thanks – I figured it should be something like that, but always good to get the answer from the source – looks also like you are getting more efficient with the Guided Transfer since I noticed the price went down – good work on that
