Gutenberg blocks no longer support markdown / links

Hi, up until a few weeks ago, I could copy and paste the content of my blog posts from a markdown file directly into my WP post editor and have the content translated. Specifically, anything in backticks was converted to highlighted code-type text, text surrounded by two asterisks was converted to bold, and links in the format [title](link) was converted to an active link. Additionally, line breaks were preserved and double line breaks translated to separate blocks.
Unfortunately, all of this functionality seems to have disappeared in the last WP update.
Was this intentional? If so, is there a plan to reintroduce this functionality?
I was really appreciating how Gutenberg intelligent interpretation allowed me to copy and paste with only minimal reformating and didn’t need to use any other plugins (for code highlighting for instance).
