Gutenberg does NOT work
-
Hellllllo? Anybody listening? I did my best and tried the new, Gutenberg editor. It really really does NOT work properly. It’s like a jungle, a real disaster. You never know exactly where what is. And the system freezes whenever I try to cut/copy/paste. Why is nobody trying to understand the core problem with this new editor? I have given myself a deadline till the end of October. If nothing happens, I get out. I am so sorry to say that after so many good years with WP.com.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there, hopefully we can help you sort these issues out.
You never know exactly where what is.
Can you clarify that? If you can get a screenshot to help show what you mean, and upload it to https://wordpress.com/media that will help.
And the system freezes whenever I try to cut/copy/paste.
This sounds like a bug that should be fixable. It’s not one I’ve run into yet though as I copy and paste all the time. Is this happening every time you copy and paste? Can you tell us more about what browser version you are using?
Thank you in advance.

Thanks for the swift response. On (1). For example, the media library was right at the top of the post you were writing. Here in the new system, I get confused. I get dozens of widgets I really don’t need. Once I get to an image, adjusting it, putting the same image as the featured image is another issue. Everything was far easier in the classic editor. It went smooth and fast for technically nonßprofessionals like me.
On (2). I have to check again today if things still get kind of frozen when I edit. It was like that yesterday and in the last two days. I checked the other word processing systems and all of them on the same computer I am working on were fine. What happened was that for example I copied or cut a part of a sentence and wanted to paste it somewhere else. Nothing moved. Even the cursor wasn’t blinking. It took two-three minutes. Every time, not once or twice. And then it works and I go to a different part of the sentence and want to paste it there. Again, the same. Like a freeze, till it reacts after two three minutes.

BTW, is it possible that the semi freeze issue comes up because most of the time I write in Persian (right to left)? In the classic editor, there was no problem with that.

A very concrete case: Today I was writing a new post and I said let me still try the new editor and see once more. Very basic issues.: The title was clear. But then what is ‘new heading’? In the classic editor if I needed a second or subtitle I just wrote it down under Heading 1, 2, or 3. Otherwise, it was a normal text. Then: where do I find the media library without searching it? Where do I place the image? It is a fight, únlike in the classic editor. Three times it went to the bottom of the text and I had to move it back up. Then: where can I determine the size and alignment of the image?
And all these blocks are simply irritating. Why do I need to write in blocks? It should be like in the good old times, also like in Google Docs, like a blank piece of paper, and I should be able to determine while writing how to shape it.
Also: Where can I edit the URL? Before it was easy, just up. Here I looked around and looked and couldn’t find anything. Finally, after spending 45 minutes, I went to Google and searched for ‘How to disable Gutenberg’ :) And to my surprise, I found it and was very happy, although the system still uses every opportunity to take me to the new editor. My whole point is: I want to focus on the content itself, on the post, on what to write and post, and not on HOW technically to do that. Thanks for your care and time.

That I can certainly understand. Feedback like this helps us iron issues out though, so thank you for taking the time to spell out the problems and pain points you are facing.
Can you give me just a bit more feedback on this?

Ideally it shouldn’t be that different from writing paragraphs. I wonder if turning off spotlight mode, or putting the toolbar at the top may help you. Both of those options are in the three dots in the upper right — want to try them?
Regarding heading / image blocks: I think you’ll find as you add a few headings and images, those will be the blocks that appear first, so you won’t need to search for them. The system tries to learn what you like to use. And the image should be inserting where your cursor is, but if you’re not seeing that, let’s work on that next.
Regarding RTL typing and issues with that: I have to admit I haven’t used RTL much myself. If you find it’s still freezing sometimes, let us know what browser and browser version you use, and I’ll see if we can find someone who uses RTL and can duplicate that.
