Gutenberg duplicate images

  • Unknown's avatar

I opened one of my pages in Gutenberg this morning (7am GMT) and converted it to blocks.

When I viewed the Gutenberg version, all images had been duplicated. When I attempted to remove one then both disappeared.

    Hi efpunter,

Can you confirm whether these steps are correct?

    1. You activated Gutenberg from https://bkthisandthat.wordpress.com/wp-admin/.
    2. Opened the “History of Sunningdale Allotments” page.
    3. Saw duplicate image blocks.
    4. Clicked the 3 dots on the block and selected Remove block (at which point both images were removed).

Did you click on the 3 dots and click “convert to blocks”? Or did the duplication occur without you clicking on that option?

Just let me know and we can go from there.

    Hi,

I opened the page via wp-admin with the Gutenberg editor. It was displayed as a single classic block .. I converted the page to blocks via the three dots icon .. clicked update to save it .. viewed the page only to see the duplicate images .. went back into the Gutenberg editor .. clicked on one of the images (a single image not the two of them) .. pressed the delete key and the block was removed. I did not save this version.

Note that I tried Gutenberg out on this and various other pages back in late September without any trouble of this sort.

  • Thanks Brian –

This is definitely some odd behavior. Can you tell me more about your set up so I can try and replicate the behavior with the steps that you’ve outlined.

    Please share the following
    – operating system type and version number
    – WordPress version number
    – Gutenberg version number
    – browser type and version number

Also, let’s rule out an issue any other plugins. Please try disabling all the plugins on your site, repeat the steps, and see if the duplication occurs again. If all looks well, add the plugins back one at a time, with the same testing, to see which one is breaking the page for you.

    Hi,

    Windows 10 version 1803
    Chrome version 70

This is the WordPress.com forum. I am using WordPress.com. I do not have plugins except that I have Gutenberg activated. I will have a further play to see if I can elicit any more information but it may have to wait until the weekend.

As I said previously, I had tried Gutenberg out in late September on copies of various pages on the site without encountering this sort of problem.

    Hi Brian,

Sorry for any confusion and thanks for sending those details. I’ve been doing some testing and haven’t been able to replicate the behaviour myself using Chrome 70 on Windows 10 but I’ve found another report of the same issue when converting existing content to blocks — so I’ll pass your report on.

Would you be able to let us know if it happens on any other posts or pages?

I’ll be in touch if we need any more information and thanks for reporting this!

    Hi,

I have tried it out on two other pages with the same effect. Here is one .. this link displays the current version of one of them.

    https://bkthisandthat.org.uk/a-history-of-the-edinburgh-festivals/

I took a copy of the page and converted it to blocks. The link below shows this version with duplicated images.

    Hope that this helps.

Thanks for the page link, that’s really useful. Would you mind keeping the copy of the page for now? It can be reverted to a draft if you’d rather not have two copies of the same page on the site :)

I will leave both versions of the page on the site until the problem is sorted.
