Gutenberg timing

What is the current best guess on when the new Gutenberg interface will launch for WordPress.com? Will it change the look and feel all at once or in stages? thanks!

I read somewhere that this new interface is planned to appear in the WordPress.org software at version 5.0 (which is currently at version 4.9.6 for general release and 4.9.7 planned). Often WordPress.com has been used as a test bed before features are added to the .org version but as Gutenberg is such a radical change can there be a feasible WordPress.com version for all or will it only be available to people with the WordPress.com Business plan? I think it is only correct that I add the modlook tag to your thread to ask if a WordPress.com staff member could reply to you but I doubt any announcement can be made here in the support forum just yet.

Hi there,
We don’t have a timeline for implementing Gutenberg on WordPress.com yet. As @themagicrobot indicated, Gutenberg will be launched in Core in version 5, but a release date for that version has not been announced yet. WordPress.com will likely implement it a little before then, but as far as I know the current editor will still be available when that happens as well, just like it will still be available in Core via a plugin.
If you’re not subscribed yet, I suggest you subscribe to https://en.blog.wordpress.com/. When we do have something to announce regarding Gutenberg on WordPress.com, that’s where the announcement will be made.
