The titles of your posts are h2 tags as part of your theme design. There doesn’t seem to be a reason to duplicate that? Or are you asking about a CSS format change for your entire site?
H tags have a particular meaning for SEO:

thank you for the follow up. i don’t want to duplicate….what i’m wondering is if there is any way to switch my post titles to h1 and the name of my blog to h2? not that the h2 is working somewhat — there are about 7-8 countries outside of the US that have hit my blog in a few short weeks. what i want to do is increase the optimization of the subjects that i am posting about, and i wondered if flip flopping my tags would help?

All H headings have specific meanings to search engines. THE most important link on your blog is your site title link and it’s an H1. Your post titles are H2 links and that’s the correct designation. Don’t muck with H headings in your posts – web designers know what they are doing when they create themes.
