Hacked
-
It appears we have been hacked. We keep getting emails that new users been created. They appear on our user list as ‘subscribers.’ When we look up our Website on Google, the results say ‘this site may be hacked.’ What steps do we need to take to keep these people out and to better protect our site?

Your site http://www.wcprevention.org/ isn’t running on the wordpress.com platform but uses the open source wordpress.org. Their support is at https://wordpress.org/support/.

Hi @iawlfan – As mentioned above your site is indeed not hosted on our servers, however, the issue you describe prompts me to ask if you have the setting below enabled.
Example: https://d.pr/i/N8dptu
How to get to that setting: Settings > General: find the “Membership” setting on that page.
If you find the box is checked next to “Anyone can register”, this allows anyone to register as a “subscriber” to your site, and this could very likely be the cause of the issue you are concerned about.
If you *uncheck* the box, that will stop the registrations from continuing. This is about as far as we can go without being your host, but we hope this helps. :)
